Jiaotan site in Wuyue

Wuyue Jiaotan, also known as Baijiao altar and dengyuntai, was built in the first year of Longde (921) of the Later Liang Dynasty. It was the place where King Qian of Wuyue offered sacrifices to heaven. The existing site is roughly divided into two layers, covering an area of about 2000 square meters. The platforms of the two layers are connected by dozens of platforms. The mountains in the middle are paved with neat rectangular stone blocks, and the traces of artificial construction are obvious. On the two-tier platform, there are many relics of past dynasties, such as Linghua cave, Dengyun cave, "zhutianmiao cave", mannanjing, wumengbed and nearly ten cliff inscriptions.

Among them, the full text of the inscription engraved by the king of Wu and Yue for the purpose of building the suburban altar is: "the first year of Liang Longde, the first day of renwushuo in November, the marshal of the capital of the world, the king of Wu and Yue, built it." it has 29 characters, and is arranged in four vertical columns, each column is about 7 characters, with a diameter of 9 cm. The discovery of the inscription confirms the records of the suburban altar of Wu and Yue in Chunyou Lin'an annals, West Lake sightseeing annals, Fangyu Shenglan annals and Liangzhe Jinshi annals. The Jiaotan site of Wuyue provides rare material for the study of the historical development of Wuyue state and its sacrificial system, and also provides clues for determining the location of Jiaotan in Southern Song Dynasty.
