Yao's courtyard is an ancient residential building. Built in 1919, it is the Yao family home of the local landlord. After liberation, the columns, beams and walls of the compound were painted with lime for granary use until 1990. Yao's courtyard has a strong local flavor and local characteristics, which is the reflection of people's aesthetic consciousness and values.

In the spring of 1945, in order to control Moganshan and Hangjiahu rear enemy areas, the New Fourth Army's Jiangsu Zhejiang front-line headquarters established a forward base and formed a front-line headquarters, with Su Yu as the commander and advancing into Xiaofeng and Anji. Commander Su Yu took this compound as the Political Department of the New Fourth Army when commanding the anti stubborn self-defense campaign, smashed nearly 13 divisions and 43 regiments of the 25th group army of the Kuomintang, and won three brilliant victories in the anti stubborn campaign.
