Oriental Art Museum
The Oriental Museum of art is located in the southwestern city of bializ, France. It was built in 1881, with 24 exhibition halls and 3500 exhibits.
Source of exhibits
The exhibits are mainly from West Asia and North Africa, including Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Iran and other countries.
Main collections
These exhibits come from very ancient times, such as the statue in 2500 BC, the stone carving in 2270 BC, the clay statue fired in 2000 BC, etc. Among them, the most famous is the magnificent statue with wings (8th century BC), which once guarded the palace gate of Sargon II, king of Assyria, in dur shahrujin (now helshabad, Iraq). These huge statues came to France and experienced a tortuous history. In 1843, the French Paul Emil Botta discovered the statues and transported them to Paris at various risks. Two of them were displayed in the world's first Assyrian Museum in the Louvre in 1847, and the third one survived the shipwreck in the shallow salt lake and was transported to Paris in 1856. The fourth one sank to the bottom of the lake and was replaced by a plaster statue. The fifth one was the only bull with its head turned to the visitor. In the fourth Hall of the oriental ancient literature museum, there is a cultural relic that we are familiar with: the code of Hammurabi, which comes from Babylon around 2000 B.C. and has 282 pieces in total. It is carved on a black basalt in the form of a wedge. The basalt is 2.5 meters high, with 282 decrees in the middle. The figures in the upper part are like the sitting God of justice who personally gives laws to the standing king of Hammurabi. The king gives thanks with his right hand to show his respect for the laws given by God.
