Dongjiao Wetland Park

Dongjiao Wetland Park is located at the junction of Tongzhou, Shunyi and Chaoyang districts. It is adjacent to TongZhou new city in the South and capital airport, airport industrial base and Shunyi modern manufacturing base in the north. The planned area is 89000 mu. The first phase will be completed within this year and completed in 2020.

The route completed in 2013: the 7.7km cycling greenway is located in the Eastern Suburb Wetland Park, starting from Jinyu road in the west, passing through Chaoyang plain afforestation plot in 2013 in the north, and extending southeast along the woodland outside Wenyu River embankment to Yingezhuang bridge.

Introduction to landscape architecture

Dongjiao Wetland Park is located at the junction of Tongzhou, Shunyi and Chaoyang districts in Beijing. It is adjacent to TongZhou new city in the South and capital airport, airport industrial base and Shunyi modern manufacturing base in the north. The planned area is 89000 mu. The first phase will be completed within this year and completed in 2020. Dongjiao Wetland Park is one of the four country parks determined by the overall urban planning of Beijing. It is an important part of the eastern suburb recreation park. It is located in the aviation corridor of the capital airport, and is also the green isolation area of Tongzhou and Shunyi new towns.

According to the plan, the Eastern Suburb Wetland Park will focus on the construction of five characteristic landscape areas: North China arboretum, impression forest, wetland forest, dynamic forest and creative forest, and build a near natural forest park integrating ecological protection, leisure and fitness, popular science education and cultural creativity. The Eastern Suburb Wetland Park will implement afforestation of 13900 mu, planting 168 varieties and more than 500000 trees, initially forming the main forest framework; the main forest landscape areas such as North China arboretum, wetland forest and impression forest will be basically formed; the 35 km long greenway will connect the main parks. If the project goes well, the public will be able to enjoy themselves in the park this autumn. In the next few years, the Eastern Suburb Wetland Park will continue to expand the forest area and improve the infrastructure. Part of the villages within the planning scope of the park will be relocated as a whole, and the vacations will be green.

After the completion of the Eastern Suburb Wetland Park, it will make the ecological landscape belt of the North Canal and Chaobai River, the ecological protection belt of the Sixth Ring Road and Jingping expressway, and the green belt of the existing one and two isolated areas closely connect, link up and integrate with each other, and become the largest urban forest area in East Beijing. At the same time, it will be connected with Chaobaihe Forest Park in the north, Shunyi New Town Riverside Forest Park and Grand Canal Forest Park in the south to form an ecological leisure and recreation belt running through the north and South in the eastern plain area, so as to bring more green leisure space for citizens.

Arbor species

At present, the plant species in the park are relatively single, about 50 species, mainly poplar, willow, Robinia pseudoacacia, etc. Through greening transformation, all kinds of plant species in the garden will reach more than 600. Among them, more than 260 kinds of trees will be planted in North China arboretum, making it the largest outdoor Arboretum in Beijing. According to the introduction, the North China Arboretum is divided into two gardens, the north and the south, with a planning area of 7748 mu. It is divided into five planting zones, namely, the original tree species zone, the introduced tree species zone, the resource tree species zone, the protected tree species zone, and the sandy and moist tree species zone, basically covering the main tree species in North China. Some rare tree species, such as Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Taxus chinensis, Pinus densiflora, Liriodendron chinense and Xanthoceras sorbifolia, will also be planted in large areas here. The North China arboretum will play a role in popularizing science. Signs will be set up for each kind of arbor to introduce plant names and growth habits to the public in detail.

Baili Greenway

A 116 km long greenway system will be built in the Eastern Suburb Wetland Park. Citizens can walk or ride along the greenway to enjoy the forest. The greenway of Eastern Suburb Wetland Park is divided into three types: Forest greenway, Riverside greenway and wetland greenway. Among them, the forest greenway is the most important type of Greenway in the park. It is surrounded by multi-storey tall backbone trees, with a width of about 3 meters. The ground is paved with permeable and breathable colored asphalt, and there is no water in rainy days. It is suitable for running or cycling. Waterfront greenways and wetland greenways are mainly built along Wenyu River and other good waterfront conditions, so that the public can feel the beauty of forest and waterfront. After the completion of the 116 km greenway, it will form a healthy cycling route throughout the key areas of the park, and there will be rest stations along the way. According to the plan, 35 kilometers of greenways will be built in the park this year, including 21 kilometers in Tongzhou, 7 kilometers in Chaoyang and 7 kilometers in Shunyi.

Wetland forest

Different from many existing forest parks in Beijing, Dongjiao Wetland Park will build a large area of Forest Wetland, presenting a wetland forest landscape with water in the forest, forest in the water and forest water dependent. Wetland forest area is located in the northeast of the park, with a planning area of 7291 mu. It is mainly for landscape reconstruction of xiaozhonghe river passing through the park and the existing abandoned fish ponds around. It pays attention to the integration of wetland and forest, and gives consideration to participation and popular science.

According to the landscape features and functions, wetland forest is divided into four areas, namely Hetang oasis viewing area, wetland science popularization experience area, natural succession protection area and forest leisure interaction area, with three hydrophilic plank roads. Citizens can not only feel the beauty of water forest, participate in various water leisure activities, but also experience the water purification function of wetland plants by observing the small wetland simulation system.

Overlooking the forest

Located in the key area of the air corridor of the Capital International Airport, the Eastern Suburb Wetland Park has specially designed a "impression forest" scenic spot overlooking from the sky. Impression forest is located on both sides of Wenyu River, only 3.5km away from T3 terminal of capital airport in the north, which is the first impression area of Beijing for air passengers. The design concept of this forest is close to the natural forest construction, and the technique of earth art is used to create a large and magnificent forest sea, forming the visual effect of "air welcome blanket". In the selection of tree species, impression forest will take into account both evergreen tree species and color broad-leaved tree species, presenting a colorful four seasons landscape.

Phase I completed

Greenway is a kind of linear green open space, which is usually built along natural and artificial corridors such as riverside, valley, ridge, scenic road, etc., with landscape recreation routes for pedestrians and cyclists. The newly built 7.7 km cycling greenway is located in the Eastern Suburb Wetland Park, starting from Jinyu road in the west, passing through Chaoyang plain afforestation plot in 2013 in the north, and extending southeast along the woodland outside Wenyu River dike to Yingezhuang bridge. Among them, the asphalt greenway is 2.2km, the red permeable concrete greenway is 4.2km, and the current road painting is 1.3km.
