The National Museum of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture was built in 1996. The museum collects the unearthed cultural relics of Gordon Neolithic culture in Weixi Lisu Autonomous County, which witnessed the existence and reproduction of human beings in Diqing six or seven thousand years ago. From the stone coffin tombs and funerary objects unearthed in Yongzhi, Nagu, Shidi and other places in Deqin County, it can be seen that more than 2300 years ago, the Tibetan ancestors had created a rich and colorful indigenous culture here.
Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum
Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum was built and opened in September 1997. The old museum is located next to Yifu primary school in Jiantang Town, covering a total area of 2338 square meters. In September 2007, the Museum of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture was moved to the moon square of dukezong ancient city in Shangri La County.
In early 2009, the Museum of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture was rated as a national third-class Museum by the State Administration of cultural relics.

The new museum of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture was built in 2006 and opened in September 2007. According to the introduction of diqingzhou National Museum, the Museum covers an area of 3239 square meters, with a construction area of 5420 square meters, an exhibition hall area of 3576.84 square meters, a warehouse area of 289.8 square meters, an office space of 436.32 square meters, a multimedia room of 107.1 square meters and a preface hall of 765.45 square meters. The museum has 9 authorized staff, including 9 employees, 2 with bachelor's degree and 7 with college degree, including 1 deputy high school, 2 in secondary vocational school and 6 at the beginning.

Yunnan Provincial People's government announced that the museum is a provincial popular science education base and a provincial patriotism education base. In order to create an environment for the development of museum cause, the CPC Diqing Prefecture Committee and the people's Government of Diqing Prefecture moved the museum as a gift for the 50th anniversary of Diqing Prefecture from its original site to the moon square of dukezong ancient city in Shangri La County. Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum displays the nature, history and culture of "Shangri La" with Yunnan Tibetan characteristics and the achievements of the Autonomous Prefecture through four exhibition halls of "natural Shangri La", "historical Shangri La", "cultural Shangri La" and "today's Shangri La".
Collection
The National Museum of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture has exhibitions of Cultural Relic Appreciation, ethnic customs, Buddhist cultural relics, handicrafts and modern cultural relics. The appreciation of cultural relics includes the appreciation of Tibetan religious relics, stone tools, bronzes, pottery, handicrafts, ethnic costumes, calligraphy and painting, coins, national treasures and the collection and exhibition of modern cultural relics. Ethnic customs are mainly the exhibition of ethnic cultural relics, including the collection exhibition of ethnic costumes and ornaments. Buddhist cultural relics mainly include Buddhist statues, thangkas, Buddhist instruments, masks and costumes of Qiang Mu dance, clapboard paintings, Dongba scriptures, Dongba card paintings and other religious cultural relics. Exchange and cooperation
In September 2006, invited by Sichuan Sanxingdui Museum, some bronzes from diqingzhou museum were selected to Sichuan Guanghan Sanxingdui Museum for a half year joint exhibition of "Sanxingdui and Southern Silk Road bronze relics exchange"; in February 2007, they cooperated with Kunming museum to Yangzhou Museum for a three-month exhibition with the theme of "Yunnan ethnic costumes"; at the same time, diqingzhou Museum Organize the staff of the museum to Dali Museum, Lijiang Museum and other neighboring prefectural museums for experience exchange activities after transformation and upgrading, and learn from advanced exhibition means.

Since it was listed as the "popular science education base of Yunnan Province" and "patriotic education base of Yunnan Province" by the provincial Party committee and government, the museum has not been responsible for the display of local history and culture, but also for the important functions of youth education base and popular science education base. Opening exhibition
Since its opening on September 10, 2007, the museum has organized many exhibitions, such as "Diqing history and culture exhibition", "Diqing Achievements Exhibition on the 50th anniversary of the founding of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture", "Diqing biological achievements exhibition", "National Park Exhibition" and "Diqing Shumei film exhibition on the 50th anniversary of the founding of Diqing Prefecture", which introduced and publicized Diqing's long history and diversified culture from different angles On April 5, 2008, it received more than 40000 Chinese and foreign tourists.
"Museum and youth" Exhibition
According to the introduction of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum, the Museum held a special exhibition around the theme of "Museum and youth" which is the "5.18" International Museum Day. On the basis of increasing the attraction of the permanent exhibition, the exhibition, together with the American Association for the protection of nature and the alpine botanical garden, jointly held the "ecological photography exhibition of mountains in Northwest Yunnan at an altitude of more than 4000 meters", with a total of 60 photos on display. The exhibition provides young people with a comprehensive understanding of the biodiversity, species specificity and important ecosystem services of alpine plants.
Donation activities
On April 15, 2011, the "Snow Mountain in another country, Yunnan Sanjiang Valley old photo exhibition" and donation ceremony jointly organized by Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum and Italian Embassy in China was held in the moonlight square of Shangri La County. Lu Yongming, member of the Standing Committee of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and director of the Propaganda Department of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, attended the donation ceremony and delivered a speech. At the donation ceremony, Ms. Barbara donated photos to the State Museum, and the head of the State Museum returned gifts to the Italian Embassy in China.
Wang Shuilin Photography Exhibition
On May 18, 2012, the 36th International Museum Day, the "Shangri La Wang Shuilin Photography Exhibition" opened in the Museum of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The exhibition lasts for nearly 20 days and is open to the public free of charge. After the exhibition, the photos will be donated to the State Museum for permanent collection.
