Chen Yongdong, vice chairman of the Municipal Federation of trade unions, revealed yesterday that the East Square of Xiamen culture and Art Center will be named "may day culture square" and will be officially unveiled during the May Day period in 2010. According to reports, the East Square of Xiamen cultural and Art Center is located in the new workers' Cultural Palace. After its completion, there has been no unified name. The square covers an area of about 20000 square meters. It is the largest plane square in Xiamen at present. Many large-scale activities are held here. Because it is particularly important in the cultural and art center area, it is known as the "cultural and Art Center East Square". At the end of 2008, the Municipal Federation of trade unions began to solicit public opinions on the name of the square. After several months of discussion, it was named "May Day Cultural Square".
