Lingxian Temple

Lingxian temple is located in guxiyan, Guxi Township, Liangying Town, Chaonan District, Shantou City, Guangdong Province. It is surrounded by the winding Danan mountain in the south, Houyang village in the north and jin'ou Township in the East.

It is 2km away from the center of Liangying town in the East, 8km away from Chaonan District in the north, and 25.4km away from Chaoyang Station of high-speed railway.

Guxi township is famous for its outstanding people, green mountains, green water and beautiful scenery. The ancient stream rock where Lingxian temple is located is even more emerald. The ancient trees are towering, and the summer is not hot. It is a place to take a cool summer. Lingxian temple has a long history and has been expanded several times. It is also a holy land for worshiping Buddhism in Chaonan and even Chaoshan.

Lingxian temple is located on guxiyan in the southeast of Guxi township. It was founded in the Wanli period of Ming Dynasty (September 4, 1573 to August 18, 1620). It has a history of more than 400 years. Worshiped in Buddhism, Sakyamuni Buddha and other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, Taoism, the northern Xuanwu God, Taoism and Buddhism are in the same stream, which has been popular since ancient times.

According to folklore, there were monks in the Southern Song Dynasty who had been practicing meditation in this area. In the 13th year of Chongzhen, Ming Dynasty, two monks, Shengshi and Zhiguan, were rebuilt at the present site. The ancient temple is surrounded by luxuriant forests and bamboo trees. In front of the temple, there is an ancient well of Lingquan, whose water is as sweet as dew. According to the records of Chaoyang County annals, there is a sweet spring under the temple, which is endless and sweet as dew. There is "dengqian cave" at the back of the temple, which is unfathomable. It is said that it is the eighth cave of Yang Wenguang's Pingchao eighteen cave village. Beside the cave, there is a "immortal footprint" and the "immortal footprint" of Shenxi Cuiyi rock, which form a pair of left and right. There is a "sword testing stone" on the left of the temple, which is said to be Yang Wenguang's sword testing stone. There is a natural stone cave on the right side of the temple. There are stone tables, stone benches and stone beds in the cave. It is said that Yang Jinhua, the younger sister of Yang Wenguang, was buried in the cave.

During the Anti Japanese War, there were revolutionary martyrs who lived here.

Every July of the lunar calendar, there are grand ceremonies and social celebrations. The directors fasted for 12 days, and the villagers fasted for three days. They chose sincere people to build isolated sheds and grind steel knives. The isolated shed is more than 20 feet high. It is a platform built of Chinese fir. The knife ladder is 20 feet high and 6 feet high. It is more than 40 sharp steel knives tied with hemp ropes to form fork shaped and inclined terraces. All the work was ready. The emperor chose a day to erect a ladder. The ladder was placed on the edge of a wooden barrel, which contained seven colors of flowers and water, five colors of seeds and other mascots. Every household in the township hung red lanterns to celebrate. The roads in the township were decorated with lanterns and colorful flags.

In Chaoshan, the folk custom of "shigu" prevails in July of the lunar calendar every year. There is a record in Haiyang county annals of Qing Dynasty that "the Yulan competition in July is called shigu, also called Pudu". At that time, Guxi temple will hold a large-scale Gala of Yulan, offering incense in front of the gods, in order to cross the wandering soul and pray for the well-being of the family.

Lingxian temple was expanded and opened on November 21, 2012ad. On that day, there were a large number of people, including eminent monks and business people from all over the country. There were no less than thousands of people. It was very spectacular,.
