Mangrove Natural Reserve

The Mangrove Nature Reserve and the mangrove in Mai Po, Hong Kong, on the south side of the estuary form a semi closed coastal water body which is directly connected with the open sea and has the characteristics of Estuary and bay. The interaction between river and sea, the mixing of salt and fresh water, the tidal action, the rich fine material deposition and the fertile water quality provide a good geomorphic and material environment for the development of mangrove wetland. Mangrove is a marine woody plant community mainly composed of mangrove plants, which is named after the light red trunk. Here natural growth plants are sea lacquer, Bruguiera, Kandelia and other rare species. It is also a national bird reserve, a habitat and stopover for migratory birds in the eastern hemisphere.
