Guiyuan is located at No.65, Zhongshan 4th Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing City, adjacent to Qiujing middle school in Chongqing city. It is an independent small courtyard with the front door facing the street. It was rented by Zhang Zhizhong when he was chairman of the Military Commission of the national government in 1939. When he moved in, Zhang Zhizhong planted Osmanthus fragrans trees by himself, and used his father's name "Gui Hui" to name the small courtyard "Gui Yuan".

Guiyuan in Chongqing is the place where the double ten agreement was signed. It was listed as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units in 2001.

Related history

In August 1945, during the Chongqing negotiation, Zhang Zhizhong prepared this place for Mao Zedong to work and meet guests in Chongqing. Guiyuan was the place where Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai, on behalf of the Communist Party, negotiated with the representatives of the Kuomintang and signed the minutes of talks between the representatives of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.

From August to October 1945, during the 43 day negotiation between Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai Shek, Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai met with people from all parties and all walks of life here many times. At 6 pm on October 10, 1945, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party signed the famous "double ten agreement" in Guiyuan. Guiyuan became an important witness of the KMT-CPC negotiations.

In 1977, Guiyuan was officially opened to the outside world. In 1980, it was designated as a provincial cultural relics protection unit.

In 2001, it was listed as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

Architectural structure

Guiyuan covers an area of 700 square meters. The main building is of brick and wood structure. In the reception hall on the left downstairs is the dining room on the right. Comrade Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai once invited leaders of various organizations in China and friendly personages from all walks of life at home and abroad. The second floor is where Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai work and rest. Here are the photos of Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai's activities during the negotiations in Chongqing, as well as the relevant reports of Xinhua daily and Jiefang Daily at that time.

Standing in the East reception hall on the ground floor of Guiyuan, there are 12 blue cloth sofas inlaid with white strips, waiting for something. In the hall, there is a desk covered with white tablecloth, on which there are brushes, inkstones, pen washes and so on. On the south wall, there is a plaque written by Dr. Sun Yat Sen that "the world is for the public". On the east wall, there is a quote written by Qi Jiguang in Chiang Kai Shek's handwriting: "if you are invincible, you are deceiving However, the enemy is never defeated... " The west wall is a flower painted by Hongwei, a female painter, and the north wall is a picture of Qinhuai lake at night. The layout of the whole living room shows the mind and sentiment of Zhang Zhizhong, the owner of Guiyuan garden.

Practical information

Admission and opening hours: from March 26, 2008, Guiyuan will open its door to Chinese and foreign tourists free of charge. After the free opening, the passenger flow will be effectively dispersed and the ticket collection will be implemented.
