Chongqing No.8 Middle School was founded in 1938, formerly known as Chongqing Private Shuren school. In 1952, it was taken over by Chongqing Municipal People's government and changed into a public school, renamed "Chongqing No.8 Middle School". In September 1958, the school changed its name to "secondary school affiliated to Chongqing Teachers College". In June 1971, the school was renamed "Chongqing No.8 Middle School".

Historical evolution

In 1938 (the 27th year of the Republic of China), Yang Ruoyu, a gentleman, founded "Chongqing Private Shuren school", with only a primary school located in Xiaolongkan Main Street, Shapingba District.

In the spring of 1940 (the 29th year of the Republic of China), Chongqing Private Shuren school opened a junior high school.

In the spring of 1948 (the 27th year of the Republic of China), Chongqing Private Shuren school opened a high school, which separated primary and secondary schools.

In December 1952, "Chongqing private school for cultivating talents" was taken over by Chongqing Municipal People's government and changed into a public school. It was renamed "Chongqing No.8 Middle School" and managed by Chongqing Education Bureau.

In September 1958, the school was under the management of Chongqing Normal College, and was renamed as "secondary school attached to Chongqing Normal College".

In June 1971, with the approval of Chongqing Shapingba District Party committee, the school was restored to its original name "Chongqing No.8 Middle School", which is under the management of Chongqing Shapingba District Education Bureau.

On October 27, 1980, the school was approved by the Education Department of Sichuan Province as one of the 33 provincial key middle schools and the first batch of six general key middle schools in Chongqing.

In November 1980, Chongqing Shapingba District Education Bureau officially handed over the school to Chongqing Education Bureau (now Chongqing Education Committee) for direct management.

In 2004, the International Department of Chongqing No.8 Middle School was founded, offering AP and other international courses.
