Collection

There are more than 1000 kinds of plants and 300 kinds of animals in Guanyinshan ancient tree Museum, including 7 kinds of endangered plants protected by the state. There are more than 50 ancient trees with research and ornamental value unearthed in recent years. From the Yellow Emperor era to the Zhou, Qin, Han, Three Kingdoms, Tang, song, Ming, and even to the end of Qing Dynasty, ancient trees in various historical periods of China are collected completely. Many ancient trees are more than one meter in diameter and have more than 500 rings. We can imagine the huge size of the original trees. Through the analysis of ancient tree rings in different historical periods, scientists can obtain a chronicle of ancient climate change, environmental change, hydrological conditions and geological movement, and also provide scientific basis for predicting future climate and environmental changes. The treasure of the museum is an ancient tree about 4500 years ago. Although it has lost one third of its outer layer due to wind erosion and river immersion, it still leaves more than 300 rings. This ancient tree has been growing in southern Guangdong since the time of the Yellow Emperor. It is a tropical tree. It proves that the climate in Guangdong was hotter 4500 years ago, similar to that in Hainan now.

Here is a collection of 60 buried ancient trees with scientific research value and ornamental value. According to the carbon 14 isotopic dating, the oldest tree is from the Huangdi period about 5000 years ago, and the youngest tree is from the Opium War period more than 200 years ago. The tree species include Pinus elliottii, Pterocarpus tatarinowii, and Cyclobalanopsis glauca, which are endemic to tropical and subtropical climate, as well as longlan, Qingpi, and Cyclobalanopsis glauca, which reflect the climate change in southern China.
