Wuning Road and Bridge in Putuo District of Shanghai, as an important road connecting the North banks of Putuo District of Suzhou in Henan Province, was built in 1956 and rebuilt in 1967. With the increase of urban traffic flow and the completion of Shanghai Nanjing Expressway, the traffic capacity of the original bridge can not bear the heavy load and has become the "bottleneck" of traffic in this area. Deputies to the Municipal People's Congress and members of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference have repeatedly proposed to widen and rebuild the bridge as soon as possible.

Deputies to the Municipal People's Congress and members of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference have repeatedly proposed to widen and rebuild the bridge as soon as possible. The reconstruction project of Wuning Road and Bridge starts from Changshou Road in the South and ends at Dongxin road in the north. The scope of implementation is 960 meters. The bridge across Suzhou River is a new three span steel box section continuous beam, with spans of 28 meters, 47 meters and 28 meters respectively. The bridge is 39 meters wide, with 6 fast and 2 slow lanes and sidewalks in total. The substructure uses old piers. It was expanded in 2000 and rebuilt again in 2008. According to the requirements of the World Expo, the whole bridge was renovated by combining Chinese and Western landscape. Wuning Road Bridge is the most personalized ornamental landscape bridge on Suzhou River. The four columns adopt the style of Ionic columns, and the 27 meter high bridgehead makes the whole bridge stand out from the surrounding environment and become the visual focus of people. The top of the bridgehead is cast with copper, and the sculptures with gold on the surface represent pregnancy, germination, growth and hope respectively. It highlights that the traffic hub of Wuning Road and bridge, like a great mother, crosses the Suzhou River with a solid body, bringing people a harmonious, sweet and quiet atmosphere. As the west gate of Shanghai, the reconstructed Wuning Road and Bridge perfectly embodies the architectural style of "combining Chinese and Western". In the detailed decoration of the bridge, the double sparrow heralds good weather, and the lotus leaf texture on the vase cylinder symbolizes peace and tranquility. The use of curly grass patterns on Dunhuang wall inscriptions, such as honeysuckle, pomegranate, Tang grass and lotus, adds a trace of mystery. The exquisite oriental charm decorative pattern on the side of the bridge not only beautifies the facade appearance and detail modeling of the bridge building, but also makes the whole bridge body fuller.
