Yunxiu nunnery

It is located in yingkeding mountainside of Nanbei lake, Haiyan County, Zhejiang Province, with an altitude of 150 meters. It was built in the Jianlong period of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-962). After the temple was built, it was dedicated to Guanyin. For more than a thousand years, Yunxiu nunnery had been abandoned and prospered for five times. In the middle of Ming Dynasty, it was at its heyday. At that time, Putuo Mountain was repeatedly rioted by Japanese pirates, and monks and nuns came here to take refuge.

The name of the nunnery comes from the poem of Tao Yuanming in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, which says, "the cloud has no intention to come out of the hill, but the bird is tired of flying." Point out the elegant quiet of the nunnery.

Historical evolution

In the middle of Ming Dynasty, it was at its heyday. At that time, Putuo Mountain was repeatedly rioted by Japanese pirates, and monks and nuns came here to take refuge. According to folklore, the Taoist temple of Guanyin Bodhisattva is in Putuo. It is hard to be peaceful day and night because of the strong incense. Following the advice of the Dragon Girl, she crossed the sea to have a rest at night. Later, the news leaked out, and the faithful men and women came to Putuo, so it is called "night Putuo". During the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty, most of the buildings in the nunnery were destroyed by war. In 1983, the county government rebuilt Yunxiu nunnery. Yunxiu nunnery was officially approved as a place for religious activities by the Provincial Bureau of religious affairs in 1993.

Yunxiu nunnery is built on the mountain, with a horizontal layout. The center is the palace area, the left is the tourist area, and the right is the living area. On the central axis, we can see the screen wall engraved with "famous mountains on the sea". At the entrance, there is a plaque of "Yunxiu nunnery" inscribed by Zhao Puchu, President of the Chinese Buddhist Association. In front of the door, there is a Ginkgo biloba of the Ming Dynasty, 20 meters high. After entering the cauldron, there are Tianwang hall, Guanyin hall and cangjing Pavilion. There is a Xuedou spring in the nunnery, which drips into a pool. The spring water is clear and sweet, and it is inexhaustible all the year round. There are thirty-two incarnations and thirty-two Ying statues of Guanyin Bodhisattva in the side halls on both sides of Guanyin hall. There is a "fish wash" copper basin in the side hall.

The east courtyard is a tourist area with sparse flowers and trees, a free-living pool in the middle, an ancient stage, wisteria shed, stone tables, stone benches and Dr. Sun Yat Sen's "Oriental harbor survey mark" exhibition. Looking to the east from the partition wall, there is a small achievement tower, which means building a small achievement tower. The ancient stage was moved from it in 1990. It is seven meters high, with four high corners and beautiful shapes. There are dragon, lion, elephant, tiger and other ridge animals on the roof of the stage. The top is a chicken cage top, which is made of more than 100 fast carved boards. On the front pillars are carved "Changbanpo", "wangjiangting" and other theatrical scenes. There are 56 vivid figures at the end of Shengdan Jingmo. The West courtyard is a living area with teahouses, dining halls, kitchens and guest houses. In front of the teahouse, there is a "bird returning Pavilion", which echoes the name of the nunnery. Inside the pavilion, there is a couplet: "overlooking East and West Zhejiang, overlooking north and South lakes."
