Dongyuan, built in Yongzheng period of Qing Dynasty, was the ancestral residence of Hu Wenzhao, including the main hall, the front hall and the cool hall. There are fan-shaped stone windows above the door cover of Dongyuan, taking the homonym of "good". The left wall is inlaid with a leaf-shaped leaky window, which is the home of the master.

Dongyuan town is located in the eastern border of Jiexi County, bordering Baita Town of Jiedong District in the East, Tatou town in the west, Mianhu town across Rongjiang River in the South and jingxiyuan town in the north.

Dongyuan town is 42 kilometers away from Jiexi County. It covers an area of 27725 square kilometers and has a population of 30600. There are 4300 overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It has one neighborhood committee, 10 administrative districts and 41 villager groups.
In 1949, Dongyuan belonged to Fengan District, later known as the Sixth District, and Dongyuan township was established in 1957. In May 1958, Tatou was merged into Dongyuan township. In September 1958, Dongyuan was merged into Mianhu people's commune. In 1961, Dongyuan was separated from Mianhu people's Commune and established an independent people's commune. It was renamed Dongyuan District in October 1983 and Dongyuan town since 1986.
