Niujiaozhai Buddha (Renshou Buddha)

Niujiaozhai Giant Buddha (Renshou Giant Buddha) is located in niujiaozhai mountain, Yingtou village, Gaojia Town, Wengong Town, 35 kilometers north of Renshou County, on the east side of the middle section of Longquan Mountain range, with an altitude of 760 meters. The mountains in the north, South and West are connected, and there are many mountains in the East. A close view of Yingtou reservoir and a distant view of Sancha Lake in Jianyang City shows that the water surface is silvery and there are many wild birds. The ancient cypresses on the village are gloomy and the rocks are jagged. A bust of Maitreya Buddha is carved on the cliff in the east of the village. It is 15.85 meters high and 11 meters wide. It was built in 707 A.D. and the Leshan Giant Buddha was built six years later. The two statues are Maitreya Buddha, with clear appearance, plump face, slightly closed mouth, slightly opened eyes, curved eyebrows, benevolent eyes, looking straight at the East, calm and smooth lines. It can be inferred that after the successful carving of Renshou Buddha, the design was enlarged and the site was selected in Leshan to make a larger Buddha statue. It was just right to make preparations in six years. Compared with the existing giant Buddhas, there are 18 giant Buddhas more than 10 meters in Sichuan, and all of them have different shapes. Only Renshou Giant Buddha is very similar to Leshan Giant Buddha in engineering layout and figure shape, but Renshou Giant Buddha is smaller. Therefore, cultural relic experts unanimously believe that it is one of the blueprints of Leshan Giant Buddha, the largest and only breast Buddha in China, known as "the first breast Buddha in China".
