Gorge Reservoir

Xiagou reservoir, a small reservoir in the valley, was highly praised by Premier Zhou.

Xiagou, as its name suggests, is located in goucha gorge in Taihang Mountains. It is known locally as "shilixiagou can't see the sky". Xiagou village has an extraordinary history. During the Anti Japanese War, the Eighth Route Army's headquarters, Peng Dehuai or Liu Deng, were stationed here. In the year of Japan's sweeping up, the devils got a secret report from the traitors and came down from xiaocang in Beichuan. A unit of the Eighth Route Army, whose protection chief was transferred, fought a vicious battle with the devils. More than 60 officers and soldiers of the Eighth Route Army died.

Xiagou reservoir was started in spring 1958 and completed in August 1961. In the age of no electricity and no large-scale machinery, the migrant workers of five or six communes in Cejing area took turns to fight day and night for many years, and the construction is hard to imagine. The craftsmen in the countryside gave full play to all their wisdom. The carpenter in the village, Mr. Chen, squinted and calculated skillfully by relying on the soil method, and completed all the calculation and measurement of the dam construction data.
