It is the only Chinese and western ancient building in Hefei. Today, the east facing front door of song's former residence is locked by a big iron lock. Only a few pieces of dilapidated buildings can be seen through the crack of the door.

There is a stone "nose eye" on the two sides of the main gate every two meters; the gate has been carved with dragon and Phoenix, figures and landscapes; beams and rafters are all carved with wood patterns, and brick walls are also carved with various patterns. More than ten courtyards, halls, buildings and courtyards can be seen in the whole former residence, covering an area of about 1200 square meters, with a storage area of 600 square meters. Only the gate and some buildings are well preserved. There is nothing in the hall. The exquisite wood carvings on the roof and beams are impressive even today.

Origin of former residence

Song's former residence was built in 1918 by Wei Lihuang's cousin song Shike. In the East was Lizhi middle school. A few years ago, it was repaired by the local government and used as the school building of Songcun primary school. Later, because of the fear that the ancestral hall would collapse due to disrepair, the school building was moved out. The main buildings of song's former residence are two three storey buildings, and about 700 square meters of zoumazhuanxin houses and hundreds of other bungalows. The bottom of the building is made of stone and brick is added to the top. The gate of the former residence was once carved with dragon and Phoenix presenting auspiciousness, figures and landscapes; the beams and rafters were all carved with wood patterns, and the brick walls were also carved with various patterns. The wing of the building is a combination of Chinese and Western architectural style. The colonnade is a Roman column made of cement, which is the earliest existing concrete column in Hefei. Its simple and elegant architectural style is of great value for artistic appreciation.

Current situation of former residence

The key on the iron lock of the gate of song's former residence is now in charge of Li Yonglin. Li Yonglin, who is over 70 years old, once studied in "Song Village Primary School" in Song's former residence. He said: "in this village, there are not many people who have never studied in Song Shike's family.". The ancient buildings in Hefei were once very rich, but due to historical reasons and some decision-making mistakes, many historical and cultural heritages of the ancient city were destroyed once, so it is urgent to protect the ancient buildings
