Development history

The ancient Chaoyin cave, also known as Xiejia cave, is named after the magical Chaoyin cave and the Xie family's escape from the Li Zicheng uprising in the cave in the late Ming Dynasty.

The ancient Chaoyin cave is a large limestone cave. According to the research of experts, the cave is of calcareous white sandstone structure. It was formed in the Cambrian period, about 530 million years ago. The upper and lower drywater caves are connected by overlapping caves, connecting caves, and connecting caves. They are immeasurable, and no one has ever been able to penetrate their source. A giant pillar, 29 meters high and 37.8 meters in girth, is the largest pillar in China. The walls of the cave are covered with stalactites. It looks like all kinds of animals. Under the illumination of modern lights, it is colorful, ever-changing, step by step.

Features of scenic spots

There are four wonders in the cave:

One wonder: the transparent fish in the cave is rare in the world. Experts named it crystal fish. The whole body is crystal clear and the internal organs are clearly visible. According to expert analysis, it may be due to the lack of sunlight in the cave for many years and the rare minerals in the water;

Erqi: the cave is surrounded by auspicious clouds. Every summer and autumn, the fog in the cave is rising, and it flows out from the cave, such as the curl of cooking smoke from the villagers;

Sanqi: the sound of water in the cave is like a tide. The cave is divided into upper and lower layers, the water flow is interlinked, the water potential is turbulent, and the drop is as high as 50 meters;

Siqi: there are iron ladders connecting the upper and lower holes. From the upper cave, the lower cave, through the largest underground steel corridor in the Three Gorges area, take a wooden boat to visit the underground gallery and see the Three Gorges collection in the cave.

"Green hills and green bamboo explore the grottoes, springs and tides in the middle of the painting.". The mysterious tide sound, the basket mountain with many strange peaks, the towering China's largest pillar, the clear Yuyang River, whether it is the flowers of the four seasons, or the sunny day and night, all present before people are pieces of ink splashing landscape paintings with appropriate shade and poetic flavor.

The biggest pillar in China

This giant pillar, 39 meters high and 37.8 meters in circumference, is the largest pillar in China. According to experts from the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Commission, the column is the thickest one found in karst caves in China. Its surface and surrounding stalactite, like mountains and rivers, like flowers, like sheep intestines, like liver and lung, like eggplant room, like canopy, like human shape, like animals, a variety of forms and changes.

Tiger seat Phoenix drum

Two 2-meter-high stone tigers carved on white Han jade crouch under them. A colorful Phoenix stands on the back of the tiger and on the left and right. The charming Danfeng looks at the sky with its eyes and wings. The middle two stand with their backs facing each other. They are graceful and curved, with a drum face shaped like a full moon between their necks. Their creativity comes from the precious cultural relic "huzuo Fengjia drum", which represents the integration of Bachu culture. According to experts, the ancient Ba people worshiping tiger, Chu people raising Phoenix, chose the symbol of totem culture, reflecting the distinctive regional culture characteristics of the ancestors of ancient Chao Yin cave and absorbing the essence of Ba culture and Chu culture, and adding the historical stories of Shi Ke, Huang, Xie and Nie four family asylum to add their cultural connotations.

Fantasy water cave

Walking down the iron ladder for 45 meters from the dry cave, you enter the magic water cave. The water tunnel is 18 meters high, 6 meters wide, 20 meters wide at the widest and 125 meters long. The water is clear and transparent. Some people say that the water comes from Tanmu gully in Liangshan, while others say it comes from somewhere in Yuyang river. It's like boating in fairyland for tourists to browse the water cave gallery by boat.

Guard door with magic dog

It is said that emperor Zhenwu was attracted by the beautiful scenery of the ancient tide on his way to Wudang. He preached here, and believers from all over the world flocked to him. In order to prevent the invasion of demons, the special god dog was waiting at the entrance of the cave for a long time.

When you step into the dry hole for more than ten steps and look back at the hole, you will see a guard dog.

Cliff inscriptions

The ancient chaoyindong cliff stone carvings, discovered in 1982 during the cultural relic census, have five stone carvings in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, with fluent writing and exquisite carving. It is a rare historical material for modern cultural research in our city, and has been included in the provincial key cultural relic protection.

Self driving: start from Yichang City, pass Yichang Yangtze River Highway Bridge, drive 40 km along Yalai provincial road, enter yuyangguan Town, and then drive 3 km along Yuyang river bank, a tributary of Qingjiang River.

(hint: the ancient Chaoyin cave is very close to Songshan Forest Park, so you can combine the two scenic spots.)

Best travel time

Yichang belongs to subtropical monsoon humid climate, with abundant rain and heat resources and mild climate. The annual average temperature is about 17 ℃. Due to the mountain barrier effect of Xiling Gorge of the Yangtze River, Qingjiang River and Xiangxi River Basin, the climate is warm in winter, and the average temperature is much higher than that of Wuhan city at the same latitude nearby. The best time to travel to Yichang is spring and autumn.
