Yan Xiang Lou

The painting and calligraphy on the walls of the hall are exquisite. The most peculiar thing is that there are three ancient pine trees of more than 200 years behind the building. From 1979 to 1981, in the evening at the turn of summer and autumn for three consecutive years, the smoke slowly rose up into the sky, and thousands of people saw this strange landscape.

Yan Xiang Lou

Yanxiang building is a traditional Chinese residential building. It is a round earth building. It is located in Xinnan village, Hukeng Town, Yongding District, Longyan City, Fujian Province. It was built in 1880 by Su Guchun.

The main body diameter of Yanxiang building is 40 meters, the bottom wall is 1.5 meters thick, the top wall is 0.7 meters thick, and the wall height is 14.5 meters. The founder of Yanxiang building is Su Guxiang. Gu xianggongchun's family was poor when he was young. In his middle age, he ran a tobacco business in his hometown and Shanghai. His business flourished and he became rich, so he built this building. The main body of Yanxiang building is 40 meters in diameter, the bottom wall is 1.5 meters thick, the top wall is 0.7 meters thick, and the wall is 14.5 meters high. There are one gate, two wells, three halls, four staircases, 34 rooms on each floor, and 136 rooms on the fourth floor. There are 4 bathrooms beside the stairs on the ground floor and 6 bathrooms beside the hall. The first floor is the kitchen and restaurant, the second floor is the granary, and the third and fourth floors are the bedrooms. The door is nailed with steel plate, and the top of the door is equipped with a water pipe and water tank for fire fighting. In the past, there were robbers and thieves who wanted to set fire to the door, but they could not succeed.

The scenery is excellent and pleasing to the eye. The most peculiar thing is that there are three ancient pine trees of more than 200 years behind the building. From 1979 to 1981, in the evening at the turn of summer and autumn for three consecutive years, smoke rose slowly and went straight up into the sky. Thousands of people saw this strange landscape. The same spectacle appeared in the evening of May 7, 1993. There is no scientific explanation for this strange sight.

Meaning of name

The meaning of the name of Yanxiang building is "to breed children and grandchildren, to be prosperous and well-developed, and to be handed down from generation to generation.". "Dafudi" is written on the front door of the building, and the couplet on both sides is: "the accumulation of virtue is more extensive, the collection of books is ancient fragrance". It is a "inheritor of poetry and etiquette". Among the 13 grandchildren of Su Guchun's descendants, five scholars and one of them worked in Fuzhou and other places. So far, there are five or six hundred people, of whom more than 400 live in Southeast Asia and other places. At present, there are 16 households and nearly 100 people living in Yanxiang building, including 25 teachers and 32 college students. It is a typical scholarly family. After inspecting the building, Zheng Xiaoxie, deputy director of the State Council of cultural relics, wrote a poem: "far away from the mountain, near the water and soil tower, with the remnant wall next door, the descendants of farming and reading are still handed down from generation to generation, and the scenery of poetry and painting is so long.". Yanxiang building was built in 1880. The 120th anniversary of the building was attended by hundreds of people from Hong Kong, Macao and Southeast Asia.
