Huaibei China Sui and Tang Grand Canal Museum (formerly known as Huaibei Museum) is located in Huaibei, a national garden city with beautiful scenery and rapid changes. It is far away from the municipal government, adjacent to century square and sports center. The museum opened in September 2004, covering an area of more than 40 mu, with a construction area of 10670 square meters. Founded in 1976, the new museum was built in August 2001. It was designed by Qi Kang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering and an architectural expert of Southeast University. It has a new and unique shape, which fully reflects the characteristics of Xiangcheng's regional culture. As a national 3A scenic spot, the museum will soon be declared as a national 4A scenic spot.

Huaibei China Grand Canal Museum of Sui and Tang Dynasties is an ingenious combination of coal culture and Sui and Tang canal culture. It is designed by Professor Qi Kang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and architecture expert of Southeast University. It symbolizes that Huaibei, an emerging industrial city, is just like a ship riding the wind and waves, marching forward bravely in the history and the long river and heading for a bright future. Its architectural style has both historical vicissitudes and modern rhythm. The name of the Grand Canal Museum of Sui and Tang Dynasties is inscribed by Luo Zhewen, the head of the ancient architecture expert of the State Administration of cultural relics and the honorary president of the Chinese society of cultural relics. There are more than 10000 cultural relics in the collection, with an exhibition area of about 5000 square meters. Huaibei Museum has seven fixed exhibition halls: Sui and Tang Dynasty porcelain hall, Han Dynasty stone portrait hall, twelve famous people hall, canal rhyme hall, Song Dynasty porcelain hall, calligraphy and painting hall, planning hall and ancient treasure hall, which respectively display the cultural relics unearthed in Huaibei area and the collected calligraphy and paintings of national celebrities. In particular, the Sui and Tang Dynasty porcelain hall, the canal charm hall and the Song Dynasty porcelain hall represent the prosperity of Liuzi wharf, the old canal road in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Precious collections mainly include ancient wooden boats, Cizhou kiln white glaze black pot, Han Dynasty "heaven and earth" portrait stone, Shouzhou kiln yellow glaze holding pot, etc. The museum also has two temporary exhibition halls, which organize and hold exhibitions from time to time, such as "Huaihai battle Exhibition", "insect specimen Exhibition", "marine Specimen Exhibition", etc., all of which produce great social benefits, play a positive role in enriching people's spiritual life, carrying forward excellent history and culture, and are the window of spiritual civilization construction in Huaibei City.

Huaibei City has a long history and rich cultural relics. As early as 7000 years ago in the Neolithic period, the ancestors lived on this land. Later, about 4000 years ago, at the end of the primitive society, Zhuan Xu, one of the "Five Emperors" in ancient China, built a city in Xiangshan, where Huaibei municipal government is now located. In November 2008, the national development and Reform Commission approved the "feasibility study report on the construction project of heritage protection facilities in Anhui section of the Grand Canal". The main content of the project is the construction of Huaibei Sui and Tang Grand Canal site museum.
