Shahu pass

Shahu pass was called shenhekou in ancient times, Bailang pass in Tang Dynasty and Yalang pass in Song Dynasty. In order to resist the invasion of Wala in the south of Mongolia, the Ming Dynasty sent troops to battle from this mouth many times, so it was named "Sha Hu Kou". Since the fifth year of Longqing in the Ming Dynasty, the "mutual market" between Mongolia and Han Dynasty, the horse market has been reopened.

In 1925, the National Army led by Feng Yuxiang entered "Shahukou". Feng Yuxiang appointed Han duofeng, one of the thirteen Taibao, as the garrison envoy of shahuguan. In order to ease the ethnic conflicts and promote the trade between the Central Plains and the Great Wall, South Korea officially changed its name to "Sha Hu Guan" according to the common name used since the Qing Dynasty. Shahukou, 35 kilometers northwest of Youyu County, is an important natural pass of the outer Great Wall. It is adjacent to Tangzi mountain in the East, Dabao mountain in the west, Leigong Mountain and Miaotou mountain in the north. The great wall extends from northeast to southwest. It is like a semicircle wall enclosing Shahukou. The mountains and cliffs stand on both sides. CangTou river runs through it from south to north, forming a natural pass with a width of more than 200 meters and a length of more than 3000 meters. All dynasties stationed troops here to send generals and set up defense.

In the 23rd year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, the earthen fort was built, and in the 2nd year of Wanli, the brick wall was built, with a radius of two Li, a height of three Zhang and five feet, and a south gate. In the 43rd year of Wanli, a new fort was built. In the middle of the two castles, walls were built from the east to the West. The old and the new castles were combined into one. Four of them opened from the front to the back, left and right. The surrounding area was 540 feet, measuring three li. The old castle and the New Castle depend on each other, and the north side leads to Inner Mongolia. There is a gate, which is just connected with the fortress of the Great Wall. The terrain is very dangerous. Since the Ming Dynasty negotiated peace and trade with the Mongolian boottarget tribe, Shahukou has become a trade center in the Central Plains and beyond the Great Wall.
