Bajiang

Bajiang River (also known as Banqiao River) is a primary tributary of the left bank of Nanpanjiang River in the Pearl River system. It originates from shanshenfeng peak in Shantou village of Shilin County, flows through Shilin County from north to south, and joins Nanpanjiang River in Lufeng village of Yiliang County. It has a total length of 57 kilometers and a runoff area of 810 square kilometers in Shilin County. The upstream is Shilin, a world-famous Shilin World Geopark, and the downstream is Dadieshui scenic spot, a national scenic spot. There are 120000 people in four townships and two towns along the river. It is a multifunctional River integrating irrigation, flood control, power generation and urban ecological environment regulation in Shilin County.

Bajiang is the mother river of Shilin people. She has nurtured countless generations of Shilin people with broad mind and selfless giving. However, with the rapid development of economy and society, the vegetation on both sides of Bajiang river has been damaged, soil erosion is serious, and the levee is in disrepair for a long time, the channel is blocked, and the levee collapses.

In June 2003, the county Party committee and the government decided to invest 212 million yuan in four phases to start the largest environmental remediation and protection project in Shilin history, and thoroughly eradicate the pollution situation of the Bajiang River Basin, making it an ecological river integrating tourism, urban leisure, agricultural water conservancy, urban dredging and urban sewage discharge. By the end of 2004, the total length of the project is 2200 meters, the green area is 115300 square meters, the first and second phases of the project with a total investment of more than 68 million yuan have been completed and put into use, and the construction of the sewage treatment plant is about to start. In the early morning and evening, the 3300 meter long Bajiang belt park is quiet and gentle with gauze and color, winding paths, pavilions and pavilions, green grass and blooming flowers. It is like an unmodified ink landscape painting, attracting more and more tourists from home and abroad.
