Dalian West Suburb National Forest Park is located in the west suburb of Dalian City, Liaoning Province. It belongs to Ganjingzi District, and is located in the southwest corner of Liaodong Peninsula, covering an area of 5958 hectares. Historical evolution

Mountain landform

The relative elevation difference of mountain area in Dalian West Suburb National Forest Park is mostly below 200m. The lithology of the mountain area in the park is mainly Proterozoic terrigenous marine sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks. The water body in the park is Malan River and its tributaries, as well as the reservoirs and dams built on the main stream and tributaries of Malan River. Quercus acutissima forest: it is distributed in the mountains on both sides of Malan River Valley, mainly growing on the thin layer soil of sunny slope. It is mainly distributed in liushugoutou mountain, anziling in the west of chaan village, yupilazi in the south, etc., and the associated tree species are Quercus, Quercus variabilis, Quercus Quercus and Quercus mongolica.

Quercus variabilis forest: Quercus variabilis is the building species, and the associated tree species are Quercus mongolica, Quercus Quercus, Fraxinus mandshurica, Quercus acutissima, etc.

Warm miscellaneous forest: distributed in the mountains on both sides of Malan River Valley, it is composed of several or more than ten deciduous broad-leaved tree species, or warm temperate tree species with more mixed growth in tree layer; or the dominant species in shrub grass layer is composed of typical warm temperate plants. The main tree species are Acer thunbergii, Fraxinus mandshurica, Juglans mandshurica, Tilia amurensis, Carpinus Carpinus, Ailanthus altissima, Gleditsia sinensis, Catalpa bungei, Acer truncatum, Quercus mongolica, Pinus densiflora, etc.

Pinus thunbergii Plantation: distributed in the South Bank of Daxishan reservoir, the hillside under the jurisdiction of Liushugou village, the North Bank of wangjiadian reservoir and the hillside under the jurisdiction of tangligou village. The dominant species of shrub layer under the forest is Yajiao, mixed with Lespedeza tenuifolia, Celastrus orbiculatus, etc.

Robinia pseudoacacia Plantation: distributed in the mountains of anziling and both sides of the highway. It covers an area of 496 hectares. The adult trees are 8-12 meters high, and the diameter at breast height is more than 20 cm. Some of them are more than 40 cm. Except for the roadside trees, the Robinia pseudoacacia forest in the park is more than 30 years old.

Animal resources

Wild animals are common in forest parks. In spring and autumn, there are more than 300 species of birds, and there are dozens of common species. Raptors, songbirds and doves are the main species in the Western Suburb Forest Park, while waterfowls are less. The main birds are: goshawk, bee hawk, sparrow hawk, peregrine falcon, Golden Eagle, white shouldered eagle, white tailed sea eagle, big bunting and other Raptors; oriole, Robin, three treasure bird, white browed thrush, sand bailing, bird and other singing birds; rare birds such as stork, swan, sea cormorant, bean geese, needle tailed duck, white browed duck, yellow billed egret and so on. There are 32 kinds of wild mammals in the forest park, mainly including weasel, Mongolian Rabbit, fox, squirrel, roe deer, badger, etc. Among them, chinchilla is endemic to Northeast China.

Daxishan reservoir

Daxishan reservoir is located in Zhangjia village. It was built in 1934 with a catchment area of 28.84 square kilometers and a total capacity of 16.8 million cubic meters. It is a medium-sized reservoir. Daxishan reservoir is the drinking water source of Dalian city with clear water quality. Along the road beside the reservoir, there are wooden footpaths.

Chaoyang Temple

Chaoyang temple is located in jiejiagou, a secondary branch of Liushugou, at the south foot of dabeiding mountain. The temple faces south from the north. It was first built in the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. The new temple was built in 1996. It is a two-way temple.
