Built in 1847, Dongjiadu Catholic Church is one of the oldest Catholic churches in Shanghai. It is also the first large Catholic Church in China to accommodate 2000 people.
Its appearance belongs to Spanish style, and its architectural style belongs to the baroque style of the Renaissance. The interior is more Renaissance style, with a long cruciform plane, more central main corridors, and a three corridor basilica style, which is very spacious. At the same time, interior decoration also adds the charm of Chinese culture. The interior reliefs show Chinese national patterns, such as lotus, crane, double coin, and floor tiles. They are examples of Chinese decorative customs inherited by the early Catholic Church and reflect the fusion of eastern and Western cultures in architecture at that time.
On July 14, 1993, Dongjiadu Catholic Church was announced as a cultural relic protection building in Shanghai.
