Wushi town

Wushi Town, belonging to Pingjiang County, Yueyang City, Hunan Province, is located in the lower reaches of Miluo River and in the west of Pingjiang county. It is known as the "west gate of Pingjiang". It borders on the new town of Miluo City, and is located in the one hour economic circle of Changsha Yueyang, the edge of the "3 + 5" urban agglomeration, and between the Changsha Zhuzhou Xiangtan two type demonstration area and Wuhan urban circle. The area is 191.02 square kilometers. In 2018, the number of registered residence in Wu town was 77188. By 2019, Wushi town has jurisdiction over one neighborhood committee and 37 administrative villages.

In 2018, there were 121 industrial enterprises in Wushi Town, including 14 large-scale enterprises and 51 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters.

Historical evolution

In 1956, it was established in Lishan township.

In 1958, it belonged to lighthouse commune.

In 1959, Lishan commune was established.

In 1984, it was renamed Lishan township.

In 1995, Sanhe Township and Shifeng Township were merged into Wushi town.

In 2003, Changpo horticultural farm and Shifeng tea farm were merged.

In 2001, the cultivated land area of Wukou town was 58875 mu, including 48617 mu of paddy field and 10258 mu of dry soil. The per capita net income of farmers is 1951 yuan, which is one of the key grain producing areas in Pingjiang county. We will develop 5000 mu of high-quality fruits, 5000 mu of commercial vegetables, 2000 mu of flowers and seedlings, and 1100 mu of water surface aquaculture.

History and culture

Wushi town was formerly known as Wugong city. During the reign of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, wushiqi, the magistrate of Pingjiang County, opened a water hall at the junction of Pingjiang and Xiangyin to transport salt, grain, bamboo and wood, thus becoming a market. Later, in order to express their gratitude, they named the fair after Duke Wu and called it "Wugong city", and later renamed it "Wushi town".

The folk dragon dance culture brand "Jiulong dance", which is known by CCTV as "one of the best in China", originated here. It is named after "Jiulong dance together, without a dragon", and is awarded the national intangible cultural heritage protection project.

Huyuan mountain is located at the junction of Wushi town and Miluo City, Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. 470 meters above sea level, the mountain originates from Lianyun Luoxiao, and the water flows out of the gujiang River into Dongting. It is the ancestor of Xixiang's peaks. There is a dragon in the mountain and a virtuous Lake in the mountain; there is a pulse in the water and the water is long.

Dongshan ancient temple is located in Wufeng mountain, Wushi Town, Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. It was built in the fifth year of the Tang Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1000 years. It covers an area of 96000 square meters and a construction area of 6899.9 square meters. It is surrounded by green mountains, towering ancient trees, elegant environment and beautiful scenery. The temple stands around the five peaks, symbolizing the birth of the five Buddhas and the suffering of all living beings.

Honorary title

In 2000, Wushi town was awarded the title of "hometown of Chinese folk art" by the Ministry of culture of the people's Republic of China.
