Donghulin site was discovered in 1966 by students from the Department of Geology and geography of Peking University during their internship in Mentougou District. In 1985, Donghulin site was announced as a key cultural relic protection unit in Mentougou District. Because the tomb is located at the bottom of Holocene loess and the top of Malan loess, the researchers define it as the early Neolithic age. The human bones in the tomb are slightly fossilized, belonging to three individuals, one is a girl about 16 years old, and the other two are adult male individuals. They were named "Donghulin people".
