The origin of Zhoukoudian fish fossils is about 1.5 km south of the Chinese ape man site. It is about 60 meters higher than the riverbed. It is a freshwater fish fossil producing area. The origin of Zhoukoudian fish fossils is a bathtub like bag like accumulation, which is composed of yellow layered fine sandstone and reddish brown thin layer of coarse sand and small gravel. In 1933 and after the founding of the people's Republic of China, more than 2000 fish fossils were discovered. They are densely distributed, and some are overlapped. Most of them retain the original shape of head, body, tail and fin, and some still retain scales. There are three species of loach, including brachypephalus brevicaudus, stichophys sibiricus, Misgurnus yunnanensis and Misgurnus sichuanensis. The first two species are extinct species, and the latter two are living species. They are important materials for studying the geological and geographical changes of Beijing.
