Hotan desert highway

Hotan desert highway refers to the provincial highway 165 from Minfeng County in Hotan Area in the south to Luntai County in Bayinguoleng area in the north. It runs through the Tarim Basin from north to south, with a total length of 522km, of which 446km runs through the mobile desert, connecting National Highway 314 and 315.

The desert highway runs through the Taklimakan Desert, which is known as "the sea of death". For tourists eager to cross the Tarim Desert, the Tarim desert highway undoubtedly provides the best conditions. Self driving across the whole desert will take about 5 hours. Along the way, you can see the strange desert landscape and the Millennium Populus euphratica.

Transportation: there is a shuttle bus from Hotan Minfeng Tazhong Luntai Korla every day. You can take this bus through Taklimakan to experience the desert highway. However, most of the buses leave in the afternoon and arrive the next morning, so it's night when you cross the desert. If you want to see the desert, you need to pay attention to the bus time
