Changhong Bridge

Changhong bridge is located at the east entrance of Tianfang village, beilebaidao office, Kaiyuan city. It was completed in 1962. Changhong bridge is 127 meters long with a single span of 112.5 meters. It is the largest stone arch bridge in China at that time. The bridge body adopts the principle of ancient Zhaozhou Bridge and has national characteristics. It was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Kaiyuan city in 1983.

Changhong Bridge

Changhong bridge is located in the east of wangjiangjing Town, across the ancient canal. It is the largest stone arch bridge in Jiaxing and the rare three hole solid belly stone arch bridge on the Grand Canal. It is magnificent and looks like Changhong.

Introduction to architecture

Changhong bridge is located in the southeast of Li street, wangjiangjing Town, Jiaxing suburb. Changhong bridge was built from the 39th year of Wanli to the first year of Tianqi (1611-1621) in Ming Dynasty. It was proposed by Wu Guoshi, the governor of Jiaxing.

It was rebuilt in 1666 (the fifth year of Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty), rebuilt in 1812 (the 17th year of Jiaqing reign), damaged in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and restored in 1880 (the sixth year of Guangxu reign). Across the Grand Canal, Changhong bridge is the largest stone arch bridge in Jiaxing City. It is also a rare giant three hole solid belly stone arch bridge on the Grand Canal. It is magnificent and looks like Changhong. The total length of the bridge is 72.8 meters, the width of the bridge deck is 4.9 meters, the inclined length of the East and West Bridge steps is 30 meters, and each has 57 steps, which are built with long stones. The bridge arch with three holes is a semi-circular stone arch with longitudinal joint, section and parallel masonry method. The main hole has a clear span of 16.2M and an arch height of 10.7m; the East and West holes have a clear span of 9.3m and an arch height of 7.2m. There are two couplets on both sides of the bridge: one side is "persuade the world to be good, and wish heaven to be a blessing"; the other side is "eternal celebration, eternal age"; one side of the couplet of the middle hole is "beautiful scenery, Mount mountains and send to the other side, cloud and Han beams in the cave are steadily on the long levee"; the other side is "Fu Ze long flow, material wealth, Min'an Guotai, Cihang Pudu River, Pinghai and yanheqing".

The shape of Changhong bridge is like Changhong lying in waves. When the weather was fine in the past, you can see it from afar. Shengze of Wujiang in the north and beimenwai of Jiaxing in the south. The ancients had the saying "Hongying lies in Chengbo and climbs high for a long time.". It is white in the South and green in the north. Changhongqiao is well preserved. The two slopes of the bridge each have 57 stone steps, which are made of flat long stones. The bridge railing is also made of long stones, which are connected by mortise and tenon of stone chisels, and chiseled inward into an arc for people to sit and rest. Every stone here can be called Xiujie. In October 1981, it was announced as a key cultural relics protection unit of Jiaxing City. Changhongqiao was listed as a provincial key cultural relic protection unit in August 1997 and announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2006. At the 38th World Heritage conference in 2014, Xiuzhou Grand Canal changhongqiao heritage site, as one of the contents of China Grand Canal Project, was successfully listed in the world heritage list. This not only means the birth of Jiaxing's first world cultural heritage, but also means the birth of Xiuzhou's first world cultural heritage.
