Nanqiao building

Nanqiaolou, the first gate into Huizhou mansion, was built in Sui Dynasty. It has been built in Southern Song Dynasty for more than 1200 years. Nanqiaolou is also an ancient place for people to tell the time at night, and the sound of beating the watchman's drum spreads from qiaolou to all directions. Today, the gate hole is a peculiar inverted trapezoid, with 26 columns standing on the left and right side of the wall to support it. This kind of "row grid column" is an authentic Song Dynasty construction method, which is now very difficult to see elsewhere. Nanqiaolou and Yanghe gate are close to each other. In the evening, however, when we hear more drums, we can't see any drummers.

It basically maintains the style of the Qing Dynasty with wooden structure, and the gate and que are in the style of the Song Dynasty.

In Shexian county. Built in the late Sui Dynasty, it is the main gate of Wang Hua, a native of Shezhou (today's Huizhou) and the son city outside the residence of King Wu. It was repaired in the later dynasties (according to local records, it was rebuilt many times in the song and Ming Dynasties). The building has three rooms, about 20 meters in height, 15 meters in width and 10 meters in depth. Brick and wood structure, hanging on the top of the mountain, double eaves and high ridge, purple walls and green tiles. Under the gate Jue, gate que 4.5 meters wide, about 13 wooden columns. Each column is more than 1 meter in circumference, and each column is about 10 degrees leaning against the wall to support the beam. Although it has been repaired many times, it is still a famous ancient building in the south of the Yangtze River.

Preservation status

The existing Nanqiao building basically maintains the architectural style of the Song Dynasty, especially the "Pai Ge Zhu", which is the authentic "construction method" of the Song Dynasty. It is difficult to see today, and the Shexian museum is in the Nanqiao building.

The ancient building we see now is the Nanqiao building of Huizhou Prefecture. Qiao Tower: in ancient times, it was built on the city gate to look out. At night, it played drums to report more, so it was also called Drum Tower. Nanqiaolou was first built in the late Sui Dynasty and rebuilt in Xuanhe of Song Dynasty. It was built on a large scale in Hongzhi of Ming Dynasty. It has a square gate (Song Dynasty style), a brick and stone platform at the bottom, a wooden high-rise building, two-story Pavilion, secondary steps, hanging on the top of the mountain. Before the Tang Dynasty, all the city terraces were built with rammed earth. Therefore, to build the gate tower, there must be 26 columns near the wall of the gate tower. There are only 24 columns hidden from the middle gate tower, so the local people are satisfied. It is also called "24 pillars". In ancient times, there was a copper pot on the building for the time of dripping, a drum, and an instrument for observing the stars and calculating the calendar. It is said that nanqiaolou has been turned on and off several times in history. The reason is that a magistrate who believes in geomantic omen said that the front door of the building faces Wukui mountain (homonymous for Wugui mountain), which is ominous and can cause disasters, so he ordered the building to be closed. The succeeding magistrate didn't believe in evil and ordered to open the gate , closed, closed, repeatedly. The Nanqiao building, which we see now, was rebuilt in 1997 with funds from the State Administration of cultural relics.
