Development history

Shantou museum is a national three-level Museum. Founded in 1960, it is the main institution of cultural relics collection, protection, research, publicity and education in Shantou. It is also the first batch of patriotic education base and youth education service base in Shantou. In 1982, Liu Haisu, a famous artist, personally inscribed the name of Shantou Museum. In 1986, he was absorbed as a group member by the Chinese Museum Society. As the current site of Shantou museum is a brick and wood structure building built in 1956, and the area is small and old, it can not meet the needs of work development. Therefore, Shantou Municipal Government approved to build a new museum in the northwest corner of Zhongshan Park on January 22, 1995. The new museum is located on the Bank of Hanjiang River and Yuemei River, with Zhongshan Park on its back, surrounded by streams and green trees. In order to facilitate access, a bridge is built in front of the museum, which spans Yuemei River from handi road to the new museum. It looks like a crescent moon, reflecting on the calm river, adding a bit of beauty to the new museum. With a total investment of more than 100 million yuan, the new museum was built on June 18, 1995. With a total floor area of about 6000 square meters and a total construction area of about 17279 square meters, the building is 42.5 meters high, with 9 floors (8 floors on the ground and 1 floor underground). The architectural appearance is novel and generous. The architectural style is based on Chaoshan architectural techniques, with colonnade, large cornice, glazed tile and granite relief decoration on the wall. Integrating tradition and modernity. Against the background of the surrounding gardens and river water, the whole building is particularly fresh and pleasing to the eye. The new hall is also designed to resist earthquakes of more than 9 degrees, adopting the more advanced base rubber isolation technology in the world, and is designed as an intelligent building. In the elevator, air conditioning, anti-theft, fire and other aspects of the equipment, are selected from the world's more advanced products, equipped with security monitoring system, sightseeing elevator, central air conditioning, fire system and other supporting facilities. It can be said that the new Shantou museum is a modern building integrating exhibition, collection, academic research and office, and equipped with underground parking lot and various supporting service facilities. After the completion of the new museum, a new batch of cultural relics will be collected for collection, and the types of cultural relics collected by the embassy will be more complete, and a series of displays and exhibitions with visual impact and aesthetic feeling will be held by means of sound, light, electricity and other means and equipment.
