Sanxian cave is the site of ancient Buddhist caves. According to textual research, excavated in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, it is the oldest cave preserved in the western part of China, and the only Buddhist remains in the ancient Shule area, which is extremely precious. Uighur people call it "yushubulhang", which means three Buddhist caves.
Because the river bank is steep and 30-40 meters high from the ground, it is difficult to climb. There are three caves of similar shape and size, which should have been built in the same period. The front chamber is nearly square in plane, with a slight arc at the top. The back chamber is equipped with a low altar or a Buddha's seat, with a flat horizontal coupon at the top.
There are only a few murals in the East cave of the three grottoes. In the front room, there are patterns of sitting Buddha, standing Buddha, Zen monk and lotus in the pool. In the back room, there are statues of sitting Buddha, disciples wearing round mouth monks' shoes, and twig binding ornaments composed of wavy vines and twig binding flowers. On the square Buddha seat in the back room of the middle cave, a sitting Buddha statue is carved. It is about 1.2 meters high and has a Zen style. It only has an outline. It should be a stone part. There are clay sculptures and colored paintings on the outside.
