Pearl Shoal Waterfall

Pearl Beach is full of potholes. Torrents running down the slope collide in the potholes, splashing countless water flowers. Under the sunlight, drops of water fall like pearls. Hence the name of "Pearl Beach". Across the Pearl Beach, there is a trestle. The south side of the trestle is covered with bushes. After the torrent passes under the bridge, a string of rolling and jumping pearls are aroused on the north side of the shoal. The swift and violent torrent is 200 meters ahead of the inclined beach to the end of the cliff. It rushes out of the cliff and falls into the deep valley, forming the magnificent Pearl Beach waterfall.

Pearl Beach waterfall is 2445 meters above sea level, 21 meters high and 162 meters wide. It is a typical combined landscape in Jiuzhaigou. It is the place where Tang monks and disciples lead horses and wade in the water in the beginning of the TV play journey to the West.

The upper beach flows from the platform to the lower Danzu ditch, forming a spectacular waterfall. Pearl Beach waterfall is surrounded by pine, fir and other trees. To get down from the road, you have to cross a dense green corridor before you can come to the waterfall. Pearl Beach waterfall, in a sense, is similar to snail beach waterfall in Huangguoshu waterfall group. It is not entirely a cliff fall, but a beach surface with an inclination of about 20 degrees. The waterfall flows slowly on the beach surface first, because the beach surface is composed of travertine and there are scales on the surface of travertine

When the thin water layer flows over the beach, under the sunlight, if ten thousand pearls are shining silver, it is named Pearl Beach. Due to the slow water flow and flat beach surface, visitors can walk on the beach barefoot without boots. However, because the waterfall is formed by the confluence of snowmelt water on the snow mountain, the water temperature is relatively low. Even in the midsummer, walking on Pearl Beach, I feel chilly and shivering.

Most places with strange and beautiful scenery have some beautiful legends. One morning, singing a folk song, the girl went to the clear mountain spring to make up. She met a young Tibetan man who was drinking water for the horse. The Tibetan young man's name was Goda. He had long cherished love for the girl, and the girl secretly loved the brave and intelligent young man. At this time, they ran into each other by the clear spring. They were both full of joy. Just as the girl and the boy were pouring out their love for each other, a demon suddenly came down from the sky, forced the girl and the young man to separate, robbed the golden bell in the girl's hand, and forced the girl to marry him. Where is the girl willing to go? Goda struggles with the devil. The girl takes the opportunity to escape into a cave. That Goda is not the devil's opponent after all

After nine days and nine nights of fierce fighting, she finally defeated the devil and rescued the girl wonosemo. From then on, Jinling returned to the girl's hands. The girl and the young man were shaking the Golden Bell and singing love songs all the way home. At that moment, the clouds in the air are dancing, and the underground springs are surging, forming 108 Haizi, which are used as a mirror for girls to make up. At the wedding banquet of Goda and voronosemo, the mountain gods also sent all kinds of green trees, flowers, rare birds and exotic animals. Thus, it has become a beautiful and charming paradise on earth.

Legend is always beautiful and moving. It adds a magical color to the wonderful scenery of Jiuzhaigou. So, in fact, how did the Jiuzhaigou landscape come into being? It is necessary to find the scientific answer from the perspective of geology.

About 2-3 million years ago, the whole earth entered the Quaternary glacial period. At that time, the glacial activities in Jiuzhaigou area were very frequent. We know that the advance and retreat of glaciers are closely related to climate change. During the Quaternary period, the climate changed dramatically, and the sea level also rose and fell. When it is warm, the glacier retreats backward, and a large number of moraines carried by the glacier tongue, the front of the glacier, stop and accumulate to form a dam, which is the so-called glacial end moraine. When the climate gets colder, the glacier develops again and extends downstream, either to the downstream of the last glacial till or to the upstream of the last glacial till. At this time, the climate became warmer again, and the glacier melted and retreated again

Then another end moraine is left. Obviously, the better the glacier develops, the more material it carries, the more final moraines it forms, and the larger the dams it accumulates. Due to the frequent climate change in the Quaternary period, the climate is cold and warm at different times, and the range is different, so many glacial end moraines of different sizes can be formed, and many dams have been developed in Jiuzhaigou area. These dams vary in size. Some are more than 200 meters long, some are less than one meter long, some are more than 40 meters high, and some are only tens of centimeters long. Since Dali glacial period (the last glacial period), about 10000 years ago, it began to enter the Holocene period. The climate began to rise continuously, the glaciers gradually retreated and finally disappeared, leaving behind only many moraine lakes, that is, countless Haizi of different sizes in Jiuzhaigou. Because the moraine is relatively solid and impermeable, the Haizi on it will not dry up. When there is too much water in Haizi and it overflows, it forms a waterfall. The size of the waterfall depends on the height of the dam. Because of the abundant water and long time, trees, flowers and plants gradually grow on the dams, beaches and slopes around Haizi, followed by birds and animals, thus forming a fairyland like Jiuzhaigou. Therefore, Jiuzhaigou, known as the mythical world, is actually formed by the advance and retreat of glaciers in the Quaternary period and the change of climate.
