Yuehu Bridge

Yuehu bridge, formerly known as Jianghan No.4 bridge, is a river crossing passage connecting Hanyang District and Qiaokou District in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. It is a part of the main road in the west of Wuhan city.

 

Yuehu bridge was built on August 12, 1994;

 

The closure of the main bridge was completed on March 6, 1998;

 

It was put into operation on May 1, 1998;

 

The widening and reconstruction project will be completed in 2018 and officially put into operation.

 

Yuehu bridge starts from the second ring road of Wuhan in the south, crosses the Hanjiang River Waterway in the north and ends at the auxiliary road of Qiaokou road in the north. The total length of the line is 1126.623 meters, and the total length of the main bridge is 370 meters. The bridge deck is a two-way six Lane urban expressway with a design speed of 60 km / h.

 

Construction process

On February 2, 1993, Wuhan municipal government made the following reply to the report on "joint venture construction of the fourth Jianghan bridge" and agreed to build the fourth Jianghan bridge; on August 30, 1993, Changsha Municipal Planning Committee formally approved the project of the fourth Jianghan bridge in Wuhan.

 

On August 12, 1994, construction of the fourth Hanjiang River Bridge began.

 

On June 19, 1996, the construction of the first stage of the fourth Hanjiang Bridge was completed.

 

On March 6, 1998, the closure project of the fourth Hanjiang River Bridge was completed and its name was changed to Yuehu bridge;

 

On May 1 of the same year, Yuehu bridge was opened to traffic.

 

From November to December 2007, Yuehu bridge was beautified; from December 12 to December 23, 2007, static and dynamic load tests were carried out.

 

On December 23, 2015, Yuehu bridge was widened and reconstructed.

 

On April 15, 2017, Yuehu bridge was closed;

 

On June 24 of the same year, the main tower of "sister bridge" of Yuehu bridge was capped.

 

On April 11, 2018, Yuehu bridge completed the main bridge closure project of "sister bridge";

 

On August 31 of the same year, the widening and reconstruction project of Yuehu bridge was completed and put into operation.

 

Bridge location

The original Yuehu bridge is located in the urban area of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the Hanjiang River. It is about 4km away from the mouth of the Hanjiang River. It is 2.7km away from Zhiyin bridge in the West and 1.5km away from the Hanjiang River Bridge in the East. It starts from the second ring road of Wuhan in the south, crosses the Hanjiang River Waterway in the upper, and ends at the auxiliary road of Qiaokou road in the north Yuehu Main Street intersects.

 

The newly-built Yuehu bridge starts from meizishan passage (including the widening of meizishan passage) in Hanyang in the South and passes through Qintai Avenue in the form of underpass. After leaving the underpass, a new cable-stayed bridge of the same type will be built in the downstream of Hanjiang River near xianyuehu bridge, crossing Hanjiang River to Hankou. In Hankou, it will continuously cross Yanhe Avenue and Zhongshan Avenue in the form of viaduct to the north, and Jinghan avenue to connect with Qiaokou road viaduct.

    Overall layout

    Yuehu bridge is composed of main bridge on water, two pylons, approach bridges on both banks and their interchange ramps. The section of main bridge is arranged from southwest to northeast.

     

     

      

      Design features

      The original Yuehu bridge is designed as a single tower asymmetric structure, with tower beam and tower pier consolidated; the double inclined dense cable system, the approach bridges on both sides of Hanyang and Hankou are prestressed concrete hollow slab bridges; the cable tower is A-type cable tower, with prestressed hollow structure, the stay cables are tensioned and anchored on the hollow inner wall of the tower column, the solid tower column below the cross beam, and the tower column above the bridge deck is hollow structure; the stay cables are anchored on the upper part of the tower The prestressed concrete is arranged in a ring shape. The main girder is a box section with three boxes and three chambers. The floor of the middle box is opened outside the transition section of the main span box girder. The side bank hole of kaosuota is a closed box girder, and the other bank holes are solid structures. The stay cable is composed of 85 Ø 7 to 283 Ø 7 domestic galvanized low relaxation steel wires. The stay cable steel wires are arranged in hexagon with missing angle, and the steel wires are parallel and straight with each other. The stay cable is provided with four layers of protection, the first protection is epoxy resin slurry, the second protection is composite wrapping tape, the third protection is hot extruded PE cable sleeve, and the fourth protection is white polyfluoroethylene (PVF) outer wrapping layer.

       

      As of August 31, 2018, the new Yuehu bridge is a steel-concrete composite beam system. The main bridge pier 2 is arranged in a row with two rows of piles on the inside and the main tower. The two rows of piles on the outside and the pile foundation on the inside are arranged in a quincunx shape. The bridge type and stay cables of the new bridge tower are the same as those of the original tower.

       

       

      Design parameters

      The original Yuehu bridge has a total length of 1.86M, and the original main bridge has a total length of 370m. It adopts (232 + 75.4 + 34 + 28) m span layout. The design length of the main span is 176.04m, the bridge width is 47m, and the radius of the main span beam section is 2515.8m. The height of the new tower is 114.5 meters. The bearing platform is 4 meters high, the side length is 10.4 meters, the tower base is 3 meters high, the top width is 7.3x8.1 meters, the bottom width is 13.3 meters, the two tie beams are 2.0 meters wide and 7 meters high. The bearing platform has a total length of 50.969 meters in the transverse direction of the bridge, a width of 8 meters in the longitudinal direction of the bridge, a bottom elevation of 17 meters and a top elevation of 21 meters. The section of the tower column is 6.6x3 m, the height of the main beam is 2.2 m, the full width of the box girder is 23.5 m, the top, bottom and web are 20 cm, the thickness of the mediastinum plate is 24 cm, and the thickness of the side cable anchorage zone is 90.4 cm. There are 104 stay cables in the tower, 26 pairs in each main bank hole. The designed maximum control cable force is 650 tons. After closing, the cables are concentrically twisted for 2 to 4 degrees.

       

       

      The main bridge of the new Yuehu bridge is arranged with a span of (232 + 70 + 40 + 20) meters. The tower is 114.5 meters high and there are 104 stay cables in total. 3.5 meters to 4 meters wide pedestrian and non motorized lanes are set on both sides of the upstream and downstream respectively.

        As of July 18, 2018, 95 new street lamps have been installed on the new Yuehu bridge deck to illuminate the bridge deck and facilitate the traffic.

          Wuhan municipal government issued a notice on September 12, 2017, announcing that from 0:00 on January 1, 2018, it will stop collecting the etc vehicle toll of "nine bridges, one tunnel and one road", including Yuehu bridge.

           

          Traffic matters

          In the early morning of April 15, 2017, Yuehu bridge was closed due to the reconstruction of Hanjiang Avenue, and vehicles could bypass Qingchuan Bridge or Gutian bridge.

            Technical problems

            Yuehu bridge adopts the front fulcrum hanging basket technology, which solves seven key technical problems in the bridge construction: 1. The fixation of hanging basket on the beam; 2. The connection and release of 25 pairs of spatial angle changing stay cables and hanging basket; 3. The plane positioning of hanging basket; 4. The adjustment of hanging basket formwork elevation; 5. The horizontal thrust of hanging basket; 6. The demoulding of hanging basket; 7. The walking of hanging basket.

             

            Value significance

            The newly built "sister bridge" of Yuehu bridge will double the traffic capacity of the original Yuehu bridge. Vehicles from Jiefang Avenue and Zhongshan Avenue can reach Zhiyin Avenue and Jiangcheng avenue of Hanyang via Yuehu bridge.
