Kaohsiung Municipal Library

Taiwan's "Kaohsiung City Library" has become a new cultural landmark of Kaohsiung. The architectural design concept is "there are trees in the hall, there are halls in the trees". The image of big trees can be seen everywhere in the hall. For example, eight bamboo cypresses are planted in the atrium of the 6th floor as trees in the hall, and plants are planted in the West and South sides of the landscape balcony of the 3rd to 8th floors, which can block the sunlight. In addition to the beautiful landscape, it also has the effect of energy saving. Kaohsiung Library is not only beautiful in appearance, but also rich in books.

The museum, formerly known as the Kaohsiung state public education Museum, is located at the foot of Shoushan mountain. During the Second World War, the museum was destroyed by gunfire and the collection of books was reduced to ashes.

In the 34th year of the Republic of China, after the restoration of Taiwan, the museum was rented along Gushan Road, with only 400 Japanese books. In the 38th year, he moved to Zhongzheng 4th Road and changed his name to Kaohsiung Zhongshan Library.

Construction process

In April of 1993, the new library, No. 39, Minsheng 2nd Road, was officially named Kaohsiung Municipal Library. In July 1979, the city was restructured into a city under the jurisdiction of the Academy, and President Jiang Jingguo declared that the promotion of cultural construction should be strengthened, and the library cause should be listed as the top priority goal of cultural construction.

Due to the rapid development of the city, the increasing population, the increasing number of readers, and the increasing collection, the original library is not enough to use. Therefore, the newly built people's activity center, located at 80 Minsheng 2nd Road, was transferred to our library as a new site by Mr. Feng Zhun. It was moved in August 1970 and has been put into use since then.

In November 1986, the general library, located at No. 80, Minsheng 2nd Road, had been used for 16 years and could not accommodate the growth of books and materials. Therefore, the library, reference room, periodical room and newspaper reading area had been moved to No. 39, Minsheng 2nd road for centralized use. It was reopened to the public on November 30, 1986.

In order to promote the reading atmosphere and culture of the public, branch libraries are set up to promote the scholarly society of the city. At present, in addition to the main library, there are Gushan, Qijin, Nanzi, Zuoying, Lingya, Sanmin, Xinxing, Yancheng, qianzhen, Baozhu, nangushan, Cuiping, yangmingshe District Libraries (jointly organized with Taiwan rotary Education Foundation) and palette children's Toy Library (jointly organized with Kaohsiung) And Xinxing and Nanzi public reading rooms.

The original Xiaogang branch library was changed to be affiliated to the city sky University in July 1986. After receiving the grant, the Xiaogang branch library still maintained the function of Public Library and continued to open to serve the community.
