Dadong Art Center

Dadong Art Center is located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, between a park and Fengshan City, which is a famous historical city. It consists of four buildings: Theater, exhibition center, library and education center. Designed by Mayu architects, Taiwan.

brief introduction

Design

The architect designed 11 huge funnel-shaped covers in the outer space of the cultural center to protect tourists from extreme weather. These covers surround the edge of the theater and Exhibition Center to create public space. Here, you can dance, play Tai Chi, and other activities.

These roof shapes prevent hazards caused by extreme weather conditions, such as typhoons, regular heavy rainfall and high summer temperatures. In case of heavy rainfall, some downward funnels guide the rainwater to flow into the hidden channels, so that the rainwater can be discharged naturally. When the temperature is too high, the hot air rises through the funnel to keep the natural ventilation of the lower space.

The theater is the largest of the four buildings, including a performance hall with interior walls and wooden strips and a rehearsal hall. In order to achieve the best sound effect of music performance and drama performance, the ceiling of the performance hall can be adjusted. The diamond shaped glass frame creates a crisscross pattern on the concrete exterior wall.
