Earthquake resistance Memorial square

At 3:42:53 a.m. on July 28, 1976, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 occurred in Tangshan city. Houses collapsed, chimneys broke, ground deformed, sand and water gushed, roads cracked, rails bent, derrick tilted, river blocked, and a century old industrial city was razed to the ground in an instant. The heavy disaster and great loss are rare in history. After the earthquake, with the approval of the State Council, seven earthquake sites were preserved: Tangshan Iron and Steel Company Club, Tangshan Ceramic Factory office building, Tangshan Locomotive and rolling stock factory steel casting workshop, Tangshan No.10 middle school inland watch dislocation, Jixiang road Shuxing dislocation, Tangbai Road food company garage, Hebei Institute of mining and Metallurgy (now Hebei Institute of Technology) library building. The well preserved earthquake site is the original library building of Hebei Institute of technology. Earthquake Monument Square is located in the southwest corner of the intersection of Wenhua Road and Xinhua Road in the downtown area. It was built on the 10th anniversary of the earthquake. The earthquake resistant Monument and memorial hall are located in the East and west of the square respectively. The whole square shows the indomitable anti-seismic spirit of Tangshan people and the traditional Chinese virtue of "one side has difficulties, all sides support".
