Liangzi island is located in Ezhou City, Southeast Hubei Province, in Liangzi Lake and on the South Bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Liangzi Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Hubei Province, with the second largest lake area in Hubei Province. It is the hometown of wuchangyu. Crabs are also local specialty products.

Liangzi Lake is the famous origin of Wuchang fish. Liangzi island is a small island in Liangzi Lake. It looks like a shoe. It covers an area of about 2.2 square kilometers and has 2500 residents. In the 1990s, Ezhou city began to carry out the overall development of tourism resources in Liangzi Lake area. In April 2001, Liangzi town was renamed as Liangzi Island eco-tourism area. The overall planning, feasibility study report and environmental impact report of Liangzi Lake eco-tourism project were completed successively, and all of them passed the provincial expert review. Liangzi Island eco-tourism area has become one of the top ten key tourist resorts in Hubei Province, and has been listed in the "Tenth Five Year Plan" for tourism development in Hubei Province. In October 2017, the 4A scenic spot of Liangzi Island ecotourism resort in Ezhou was delisted and ordered to close down for rectification.
