Broken bridge at Hekou

The Yalu River is the earliest highway bridge connecting the two sides of China and North Korea. It is one of the three major river crossing places of the volunteer army. It records the great achievements of Peng Dehuai, Mao anying and other volunteer soldiers in the war of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea. It is also the shooting place of the TV series Liu Laogen.

Hekou broken bridge, formerly known as Qingcheng bridge, is the earliest highway bridge connecting the two sides of China and North Korea on the Yalu River.

Introduction to scenic spots

Located at the mouth of Dandong River, it was listed as AAAA national key scenic spot of Yalu River in 2004. It is the most beautiful place along the Yalu River. Hekou broken bridge, formerly known as Qingcheng bridge, is the earliest highway bridge connecting the two sides of China and North Korea on the Yalu River. In 1941, the Japanese aggressors ordered the puppet Manchukuo and the Korean authorities to build the bridge for the need of military aggression and economic plunder. The total length of the bridge is 709.12 meters, the height of the bridge is 25 meters, and the width of the bridge deck is 6 meters. There are 22 piers with 21 holes, which were completed in 1942. On October 19, 1950, Peng Dehuai, who was appointed commander of the volunteer army to the DPRK at that time, took a jeep from the bridge to the Korean battlefield with only one staff officer, two security guards and a radio station. On March 29, 1951, the U.S. military dispatched six batches of more than 30 planes to bomb the Qingcheng bridge in turn. Nowadays, in order to remember the heroic martyrs during the period of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea, many models such as Peng Dehuai, Mao anying, Qiu Shaoyun and Huang Jiguang have been set up at the end of the broken bridge to inspire future generations and defend the motherland.
