Wangjianglou Park

Wangjianglou Park was built in the 15th year of Guangxu reign of Qing Dynasty in memory of Xue Tao, a poetess living in Chengdu in Tang Dynasty. It is one of the landmark buildings in Chengdu.

The most beautiful loft in the park is Wangjiang tower (formerly known as Chongli Pavilion); Xue Taojing is a scenic spot where many tourists will come here to have a look, but it is not Yuanjing. In addition, the memorial hall of Xue Tao can provide an in-depth understanding of his life and works. Of course, please don't disturb Xue Tao's tomb in the quiet corner. If you like silence, the bamboo groves in the garden will be the best company.

Wangjianglou Park

Wangjianglou park is located in the South Bank of Jinjiang River, Jiuyanqiao, dongmenwai, Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It covers an area of 188 mu. The main buildings in the park are Chongli Pavilion, Zhuojin Pavilion, HuanJian Pavilion, Wuyun fairy Pavilion, Liubei pool and Quanxiang Pavilion.

Wangjianglou Park was built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties to commemorate Xue Tao, the poetess of Tang Dynasty. It was established as Wangjianglou Park in the Republic of China and is now a key cultural relic protection unit in China.

Scenic spots in the park

Wangjiang tower

The most magnificent building in Wangjianglou park is the 39 meter high Wangjianglou, also known as chonglige. The ridge and sparrow on each floor are decorated with exquisite clay sculptures of animals and figures. The top of the pavilion is gilded. Under the beautiful sun, it is glittering and dazzling. Ingenious design, cornice angle, Diaolianghuadong, magnificent. Climbing the tower, you can have a panoramic view of the spring scenery of Jinjiang River. In addition, the poetry reciting tower is open on all sides, and the Zhuojin tower has two floors and three rooms, which looks like a boat. One Pavilion, two floors and the adjacent wuyunxian Pavilion constitute a garden complex with Sichuan style.

Zhuojin building

Zhuojin tower is located on the west side of Chongli Pavilion. It has two floors and three rooms. It looks like a boat. Because the brocade weaving households in Chengdu in Han Dynasty often put the brocade into Jinjiang River for washing, Jinjiang River is also called Zhuojin River, so Zhuojin tower gets its name. The building is in the shape of a boat. It is said to commemorate Xue Tao's farewell to his close friend Yuan Zhen.

Poetry reciting building

Located on the east side of Chongli Pavilion, the poetry reciting tower was built on the basis of the poetry reciting tower of bijifang, where Xue Tao lived in his later years. It is open on all sides and depends on each other in three layers. The loquat gate in the southwest of the poetry reciting building was built according to the meaning of "living in a closed door in loquat flowers" in the poem presented by poet Wang Jian to Xue Tao. Passing through the loquat gate, there are memorial buildings such as Wuyun fairy hall, spring Pavilion, Qingyuan room and HuanJian Pavilion. One Pavilion, two floors and the adjacent wuyunxian Pavilion constitute a garden complex with Sichuan style.

Characteristics of the park

The open area of Wangjianglou park is a landscape area with bamboo as the main part, and it is a special park with the most bamboo species in China. Xue Tao loved bamboo all his life and praised bamboo for its "modesty and self-reliance" and "extraordinary vitality". In memory of Xue Tao, posterity planted all kinds of excellent bamboos in the garden, bringing together more than 200 kinds of bamboos at home and abroad, among which there are many precious bamboos. People regard this beautiful garden as a "Bamboo Park".

In the northeast of the park, there is a Yujin bridge leading to the other side of Jinjiang River, which forms a transitional landscape with Feiyun waterfall and Wangyue platform. Every time the moon rises, you can enjoy the shadow of the moon in the waves on the moon watching platform. Therefore, the riverbank under the platform is engraved with the word "Jinbo Lizhu". In the east of the bridge, there is a temple like building named "Jinjiang chunse", which was demolished from the former wusheng palace. It belongs to the Qing Dynasty building and is named "Jinjiang chunse comes from heaven and earth" by Du Fu.

There is an entertainment service area along the river, including teahouse, bijiyuan fishing area, restaurant, children's paradise, etc. Mingluolou is the main teahouse in the garden. It gets its name from the famous saying of he Shaoji in the Qing Dynasty, "the fragrance of mingluolou on a flower raft lasts for thousands of years". It is very sweet to make tea with Xue Tao's well water. In his later years, Xue Tao lived in Biji square in the northwest corner of the city.

Current situation of the park

Wangjianglou park has spent more than 3 million yuan to complete the greening transformation with an area of more than 30000 square meters. Huanjianxi is one of the transformation tasks. The 300 meter long HuanJian River starts from the bonsai garden in the west, passes through the bamboo forest, Biji garden and central recreation area, and ends at the entrance of Qingyi Lake in the south. It used to be nicknamed "Longxugou" by the public, and it is very beautiful after transformation.

According to the goal of building Chengdu into a "world modern garden city", many municipal parks in Chengdu are undergoing landscape renovation, and many of them are regulated or even reduced.

Historical evolution

It was built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties in memory of Xue Tao, a famous poetess of the Tang Dynasty. It was turned into Wangjianglou Park in the Republic of China.

Xue Tao is a native of Chang'an (now Xi'an, Shaanxi Province). He lived in Sichuan with his father. He was intelligent, studious and outstanding. After his father's death, because of his poor family, he was included in the music book at the age of 15. She was good at poetry and writing, but also proficient in temperament, which was appreciated by Wei Gao, the governor of Xichuan at that time. She was able to enter and leave the government. She once worked as a schoolboy, and was known as a schoolgirl at that time. According to records, Xue Tao has 500 poems. Her contemporaries, such as Yuan Zhen, Bai Juyi, Ling Hu Chu, Pei Du, Du Mu, Liu Yuxi and Zhang Ji, all highly praised her and wrote poems in harmony with each other. Unfortunately, most of these poems are lost, and only more than 90 have survived.

Most of the ground of the park is covered by bamboo forests. Because Xue Tao loved bamboo all his life, he often encouraged himself with the virtue of "vigorous and self-sustaining", and later generations planted all kinds of good bamboo in the park. Therefore, he became a famous bamboo gathering place in China, also known as "Bamboo Park" or "Jincheng bamboo garden". There are more than 150 kinds of bamboos in the park, including not only famous bamboos from Sichuan, but also rare bamboos from southern China, Japan and Southeast Asia. The main varieties are bamboos with human face, bamboos with Buddha belly, bamboos with square shape, bamboos with chicken feet, bamboos with purple color, bamboos with Mian color, bamboos with Hu Qin color, bamboos with wheat color, bamboos with solid color, etc.

There is also Xue Taojing in the garden, which is said to draw water for Xue Tao. Beside the well, there is a stone tablet with the words "Xue Taojing" written on it, which is the handwriting of Yiying Xiong, the magistrate of Chengdu during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. In his later years, Xue Tao made a kind of crimson paper in bijifang, where he lived. Its color is gorgeous and exquisite. It is known as "Xue Tao paper" in the world, and has been imitated in many dynasties. In fact, this well was copied by the king of Shu in Ming Dynasty.
