Northwest University

Northwest University was founded in Shaanxi University in 1902, called Northwest University in 1912, and renamed National Northwest University in August 1923. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese war in 1937, national Peiping University, national Peiping Normal University and national Beiyang Institute of technology moved to Shaanxi to form national Xi'an temporary University. In 1938, it was renamed National northwest United University, and in August 1939, it was renamed National Northwest University.

In the early days of the people's Republic of China, Northwest University was a comprehensive university directly under the central Ministry of education. In 1958, it was under the charge of Shaanxi Province. In 1978, it was designated as a national key university. At present, it is a key construction University of the national "211 Project" and a University jointly built by the Ministry of education and Shaanxi Province. The school has three campuses: Taibai campus, Taoyuan campus and Chang'an campus, covering a total area of more than 2360 mu. At present, there are 22 Colleges (departments) and graduate schools with 83 undergraduate majors. At present, the university has 19 first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 39 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree and 16 professional degree authorization points. At present, there are 1 national key discipline (covering 5 secondary disciplines), 4 national key disciplines and 1 national key discipline (cultivation) and 21 mobile stations for postdoctoral research. The university has one national key laboratory, one national engineering technology research center, one national international science and technology cooperation base, and five national experimental teaching demonstration centers, There are 1 National virtual simulation experiment teaching center, 7 national talent training bases, and 29 key laboratories, engineering technology research centers and Humanities and social sciences research bases. At present, there are more than 2500 faculty members, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 5 distinguished (Lecture) professors of "Changjiang Scholars", 5 winners of the national fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 6 innovation teams of the Ministry of education, 4 national famous teachers, 5 national teaching teams, and 41 national and provincial outstanding experts. There are more than 23000 students, including more than 7000 full-time graduate students and more than 700 foreign students.

Since the founding of the people's Republic of China, the university has trained more than 200000 professionals for the country, most of whom have become business backbones, academic leaders and leading cadres in their industries, departments and regions. The school is known as "the mother of talents in PetroChina", "the cradle of economists" and "the cradle of writers". The school is one of the first batch of PLA reserve officer training pilot colleges.

Every year, the university undertakes more than 100 national level projects, such as the national "973" plan, the "863" plan, the national major science and technology projects and the National Natural Science Foundation. He has won a series of major scientific and technological awards, including the first and second prizes of the National Natural Science Award, the second prize of the National Technological Invention Award, the second prize of the national scientific and technological progress award, and the first prize of the Yangtze River scholar achievement award.

The University attaches great importance to foreign scientific and cultural exchanges, and has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 100 universities and scientific research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions, such as the United States, Britain, France, Germany and Japan. Encyclopedia Britannica once listed Northwest University as one of the world famous universities.
