The College of science and technology of Three Gorges University is an independent college with the status of independent enterprise legal person, which is registered by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China and approved by the Department of education of Hubei Province. Its predecessor was Yichang Branch of Three Gorges University, which was established in September 2000. In August 2002, it was renamed as the College of science and technology of Three Gorges University with the approval of the Provincial Department of education. In February 2004, it was reconfirmed as an independent college of higher education with the approval of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. In 2010, the college passed the undergraduate professional teaching level evaluation of Independent Colleges in Hubei Province, and in 2012, it passed the bachelor's degree awarding authority unit and professional audit evaluation of Independent Colleges in Hubei Province, with the qualification of independently awarding Bachelor's degree.

The college is located in Yichang City, Hubei Province, where the Three Gorges project is located, the world's hydropower capital and China's famous tourist city. It is adjacent to the Three Gorges University and shares the good atmosphere and high-quality educational resources of the University. Covering an area of 825 mu, the college has 38 undergraduate majors and 13 junior college majors, covering seven disciplines, including engineering, arts, management, economics, law, medicine and art, and has the qualifications for minority preparatory classes and ethnic classes. As of October 2017, the college has more than 11000 students.

The college has 631 faculty members, including 474 full-time teachers and 322 off campus teachers. Among full-time teachers, 65.4% have master's degree or above, and 34.8% have senior professional title or above.

In the process of development, the school of science and technology of Three Gorges University takes "morality, ability, self-cultivation and wisdom" as its motto, and always takes deepening teaching reform and constantly improving teaching quality as an important breakthrough to realize the transformation and upgrading of the college. It has formed the "talent training as the center, serving the water conservancy and power industry, serving the local social and economic construction as the purpose, and taking three classrooms as the carrier, In order to train the applied technical talents in the first line of production, the education quality and teaching level of the college have been greatly improved. In recent years, the employment rate of college graduates has been maintained at more than 90%, and the online rate of postgraduate entrance examination has always been maintained at more than 10%. College students have won more than 150 provincial and ministerial awards in various subject competitions every year. In 2016, the college became one of the top 100 independent colleges in China and was rated as a regional high-level independent college.
