Harbin Institute of finance is located in the beautiful ice city of Harbin. It was founded in 1950. It has gone through several historical periods, such as the cadre training class of Heilongjiang Branch of northeast bank, Qiqihar Cadre School of people's Bank of China, Heilongjiang bank school, Harbin finance college, Harbin finance college. She is China's first financial college approved by the State Council. The University was originally under the head office of the people's Bank of China. After the reform of the management system of colleges and universities nationwide in 2000, it was changed to be jointly built by the central and local governments, with local management as the main task. In April 2010, approved by the Ministry of education, it was upgraded to Harbin Institute of finance.

After more than half a century of exploration and development, the college now covers an area of 642900 square meters, the school building area of 202300 square meters. The library has 1196800 paper books and 18901.45gb digital resources. It has initially formed a financial literature and reference center of Heilongjiang Province with complete literature types and outstanding professional characteristics. It has 33 multi-media classrooms, 33 laboratories of various types, 10 speech rooms and more than 90 off campus practice bases. The practical teaching conditions have reached the first-class level of similar colleges in China.

The college has a teaching staff with reasonable educational background, professional title, age structure, and strong ability of teaching, scientific research and social service. At present, there are 785 teaching staff, including 567 full-time teachers, 406 full-time teachers with master's degree or above, accounting for 71.6% of full-time teachers; 50 full-time teachers are regular vocational teachers, 203 Deputy vocational teachers, and 44.62% of full-time teachers are teachers with senior professional titles. There are 5 provincial excellent teachers and 7 provincial famous teachers. One young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions at the national level and two with special government subsidies from the State Council.

At present, the college has more than 10000 full-time students. The college has 10 teaching departments, 19 undergraduate majors and 18 junior college majors covering five disciplines of economics, management, arts, law and engineering. Among them, finance discipline is rated as the key construction discipline of Heilongjiang Province during the 12th Five Year Plan period; Finance (undergraduate) and financial management and Practice (junior college) are provincial key majors; accounting (financial accounting direction) is a national professional teaching reform pilot specialty and a national excellent specialty; Financial management and practice, securities investment and management are two major of Heilongjiang Province. The college has one provincial Talent Training Mode Innovation Experimental Zone, nine provincial excellent courses and two provincial excellent teaching teams. The college has been awarded the titles of "advanced collective of research and management on key subjects of education reform of the Ministry of education", "advanced collective of research and management on key subjects of vocational education reform of the Ministry of education", "advanced collective of research and management on course type subjects of Heilongjiang Universities" and so on.

The college attaches great importance to scientific research and is committed to improving the academic level of scientific research. In the past five years, 1537 academic papers, 431 scientific research projects, 19 monographs and 293 teaching materials have been published, and 335 scientific research achievements have been awarded. "Financial theory and teaching" is one of the earliest financial journals in China. It is published at home and abroad and enjoys a high reputation in the society. The college has four research institutes of accounting, finance, investment insurance, enterprise management and higher education research office, striving to build a key research base of financial theory and practice in Heilongjiang Province.

The college enrolls students from 30 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China. Since its establishment, it has trained more than 50000 graduates for the country. Most of the graduates are distributed in banking, insurance, securities and other financial industries, and many of them have grown into leaders and business backbones at all levels in the financial front. According to the questionnaire survey of the employers, the graduates of our college enjoy a high social reputation, the comprehensive evaluation of the competency rate is more than 95%, and the employment rate of students is stable at more than 80%.

The college actively carries out international cooperation and exchanges, and carries out joint education with the United Kingdom. It has extensive contacts and cooperation with universities, scientific research institutions and academic groups in the United States, Australia, Malaysia and other countries.
