Shanxi Datong University, approved by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China in 2006, is a multidisciplinary university established by the merger of Yanbei Normal University, Datong Medical College, Datong vocational and technical college and Shanxi Industrial Vocational and technical college.

The newly established Shanxi Datong University is located in Datong, a famous historical and cultural city and the hometown of coal sea. It covers an area of 2400 Mu and has a construction area of nearly 700000 square meters. The four main buildings of the new campus: the new main teaching building, the science and technology experimental building, the new library and the gymnasium have been basically completed. The total value of the school's teaching equipment is 96.36 million yuan, and the library has a collection of more than 1.8 million books. It has 16 colleges of politics and law, literature and history, foreign languages, art, engineering, medicine and agriculture, 35 undergraduate majors and 22000 full-time undergraduate and junior college students.

The school attaches great importance to the training and improvement of the teaching staff, and has more than 1400 full-time teachers. Among them, 38% are professors and associate professors, 21% have doctor's or master's degrees, and 317 are studying for doctor's or master's degrees, accounting for 24% of the total number of teachers.

Three provincial key supporting disciplines including condensed matter physics, analytical chemistry and literature and art have been established, and 10 disciplines including theoretical physics and basic mathematics have been identified as key construction disciplines at the university level; six university level brand specialties including Chinese language and literature, English, mathematics and applied mathematics, physics, chemistry and physical education have been established, and two provincial demonstration laboratories of basic chemistry and electronic technology have been established; 15 university level excellent courses have been established One course, one provincial excellent course.

While Comprehensively Strengthening the construction of disciplines and specialties, the university has taken advantage of its own advantages and carried out research in the fields of coal deep processing, Liao and Jin literature, Northern Wei culture, Yungang Grottoes protection, local folk custom, endemic disease prevention and control, crops in alpine regions, etc. In the past three years, the university has undertaken 20 national scientific research projects and 109 provincial scientific research projects; published 3675 scientific and technological papers, including 201 in core academic journals, 130 included in the international "four major retrieval" system; published 326 academic monographs and teaching materials, and won 13 awards at or above the provincial level.
