Nanchang Institute of engineering is a public university approved by the Ministry of education with the enrollment qualification of ordinary undergraduate education. It was originally a university directly under the Ministry of water resources. Its predecessor is Jiangxi Institute of water resources and hydropower, which was founded in 1958. In 1978, it resumed running at the junior college level.
