Hunan Vocational College of science and technology was established in August 2001 with the approval of Hunan Provincial People's government and sponsored by Hunan China Vocational Education Society. It is the only public higher vocational college in China's vocational education society system, which is jointly built by Hunan Provincial People's government and China Vocational Education Society. The core values of the college are "sincerity to the public, fine work and happy work", the school running philosophy is "taking the road of personalization, diversity and openness, cultivating high-quality and highly skilled talents", and the goal is to create a domestic first-class demonstrative higher vocational college. In December 2003, the college was approved by the Ministry of education as the only one of the first batch of universities in Hunan Province to pilot the national demonstrative software vocational and technical college. In December 2005, it successfully passed the evaluation of talent training level of Higher Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of education and won the excellent grade. In September 2007, it became a model construction unit of Higher Vocational Colleges in Hunan Province.   

Located in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, the college is divided into Yuhua campus and Muyun campus, covering an area of 548 mu, with a construction area of 234000 square meters, fixed assets of 320 million yuan and a total of 543000 books. Teaching building, training building, library, gymnasium and other teaching and living facilities are perfect.

The college enrolls students from 26 provinces (cities, districts) in China. So far, it has graduated more than 13000 vocational students from five sessions. At present, there are more than 10000 students in the school, including 7 departments (colleges) of software technology, art design, light chemical engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering and technology, electronic information engineering and technology, economic and trade business, music, public course department, ideological and political theory teaching department, physical education teaching Department, and 39 specialties and professional directions, forming a professional university focusing on electronic information and art design media Class and engineering, culture, economy, management coordinated development of professional layout.

At present, the college has 540 teachers, 405 full-time teachers, 152 full-time professors and associate professors (senior engineers, senior craft artists), 13 senior teachers, 1 provincial famous teacher, 9 provincial professional leaders and 6 provincial young backbone teachers. In June 2008, the faculty team of software technology specialty was rated as the provincial excellent teaching team.

In 2005, the college's computer application and software technology training base was approved as the national training base. At present, there are three national excellent courses, namely "three-dimensional space art design", "leather shoes craft" and "software modeling technology"; four excellent courses, including "public space design", "leather craft", "business English reading", "chain store operation management", etc., of the Ministry of education; software technology, product modeling design (leather product design and craft), and computer art There are four provincial top-quality construction majors, including design, computer application technology (Computer English compound direction); five provincial top-quality construction courses, including Java program design, leather shoes craft, interior design, network security technology and analog electronic technology; provincial key practice and training base of art design and teacher's College of computer application and software technology It is a provincial key construction base for professional skill teaching level certification and training.

The college has 110 professional training places, including numerical control, machining, electronic technology, hydro pneumatic transmission, electronic control, computer, art design, leather products, polymer materials, toys, multi-functional economic and trade simulation, etc. The campus network has been built, the electronic reading room, multimedia classroom and modern language room have been opened up, and the total value of teaching equipment is 42.7 million yuan.

The college actively carries out the combination of production and learning, school enterprise cooperation, and cooperates with 107 well-known enterprises, such as Delta Electronics Co., Ltd., Artos Printing Co., Ltd., sanchen cartoon group, and Chuangzhi software park.
