Hunan Vocational College for Nationalities

Hunan Vocational College for nationalities was upgraded from Yueyang Normal University to a full-time college in July 2003. The Institute was once a famous secondary normal school and an advanced normal school in China. It was one of the first batch of 20 experimental normal schools for primary and junior college classes in China determined by the Ministry of education. It was also one of the two schools directly designated by the Ministry of education to train junior college primary school teachers in Tibet Autonomous Region. In 2006, it was rated as an advanced unit of national education aid to Tibet. After upgrading and transformation, the school running idea of the college is to strengthen teacher education, to improve vocational education, to do special ethnic education and to do active adult education. The college has set up 7 departments including Humanities Department, information technology department, foreign language department, art department, education department and adult education department. There are 4500 students from 26 nationalities in 18 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China. There are 1600 undergraduate and junior college correspondence students. It also directly manages the affiliated primary schools with more than 2000 teachers and kindergartens with nearly 300 teachers and students. The upgraded college has a strong faculty and excellent teaching staff, with 269 teaching staff and 181 full-time teachers, including 3 with senior professional title, 98 with deputy senior professional title and 24 with graduate degree. In 2007, the college opened 22 majors, including primary education, market development and marketing, accounting computerization, business English, performing arts, art design, automobile inspection and maintenance technology, preschool education, advertising design and production, computer application technology, tourism management, dance performance, etc. The new campus covers an area of 1000 mu, with a construction area of more than 200000 square meters. It is an ecological and garden campus. In August 2007, the college relocated as a whole, recruiting 1600 new students, including 720 Tibetan students.
