Changsha Environmental Protection Vocational and technical college, founded in 1979, formerly known as Changsha Environmental Protection School of State Environmental Protection Administration. In 2002, the University was upgraded to a public full-time ordinary university, which is now jointly built by the Ministry of environmental protection and the people's Government of Hunan Province. It is the only higher vocational college specialized in cultivating high-quality and skilled environmental protection front-line talents in China. Over the past 30 years since its establishment, more than 20000 environmental protection students have gone from here to the society, become the pillars of environmental protection all over the country and all walks of life, and become the backbone of the grass-roots county and City Environmental Protection Bureau. Over the years, under the correct leadership and strong support of the Ministry of environmental protection, Hunan provincial Party committee and Hunan Provincial People's government, the college has always adhered to the socialist school running direction, comprehensively implemented the party's education policy, continuously deepened the internal management system reform around the education and teaching center, promoted the ideological and political education of college students, continuously improved the school running level, and made great strides in the construction of the college . Since 2003, the college has won more than 30 honorary titles such as "Hunan civilized university", "Hunan Advanced University of Party construction", "Hunan environmental protection system spiritual civilization construction model unit", "Hunan May 4th Red Flag Youth League Committee". In 2006, it was recognized as "excellent" level in the talent training evaluation of the Ministry of education.

The college has more than 570 teaching staff, including more than 380 full-time teachers, nearly 130 teachers with senior titles such as professor and associate professor, and high degree such as doctor and master, and more than 220 "double qualification" teachers. There is also a group of visiting professors including academicians of the Chinese Academy of engineering, researchers of national (provincial) scientific research institutes, and senior executives of large enterprises. There are six departments including environmental engineering department, environmental monitoring department, environmental science department, environmental art department, business and Tourism Department, information technology department and three teaching departments. It has 30 majors, including environmental engineering technology, environmental monitoring, environmental planning, environmental management, environmental art design, landscape engineering technology, computer network technology, food nutrition and detection. It has enrolled students from more than 30 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China, with nearly 8000 students. In addition, the Ministry of environmental protection and Hunan Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau set up cadre training centers in the college respectively, and the Ministry of human resources and social security of China set up computer high-tech examination station and environmental protection vocational skill appraisal institute in the college. The college also has the national "class B certificate of environmental impact assessment", which plays an important role in the field of environmental impact assessment and other technical services.
