Jiangsu food vocational and technical college is a public full-time college with higher education qualification approved by Jiangsu Provincial People's government and registered by the Ministry of education. It is the only independent higher vocational and technical college with food science as its characteristics in China.

The college is located in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province, the hometown of Premier Zhou Enlai, a great man of the generation. It has convenient transportation and well-developed water transportation. Xinchang railway, Nanjing Lianyungang expressway, Beijing Shanghai Expressway and Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal pass through it. The college has eight departments: Food Engineering, bioengineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, tourism and cooking, computer application technology, accounting, economy and trade, foreign language, etc. The specialty setting is characterized by food science with many categories and long industrial chain. In 2004, the major of fermentation engineering was selected as the "model major of Jiangsu Province"; in 2006, the major of food processing technology was selected as the "construction point of characteristic major of colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province"; the major of "food processing technology" and "basic accounting" were selected as the "Excellent Courses" of the state and the provincial level respectively.

The college adheres to the school running concept of "promoting both knowledge and practice, promoting both morality and technology", takes service as the purpose, takes employment as the guidance, "bases itself on Jiangsu, radiates the whole country", and actively cultivates high-quality and high skilled applied professionals to meet the front-line needs of production, construction, management and service of China's food industry. At present, the college has 98 on campus experiment and training rooms. Among them, the training center in the field of food biotechnology is a key training base project constructed by the Ministry of education, the Ministry of finance, the Provincial Department of education and the Department of finance of the people's Republic of China. The field of food engineering was included in the construction project of Jiangsu higher vocational education training base in 2004. The college has a food exhibition hall, "National Institute of vocational skill appraisal", a "professional skill appraisal station for special types of work in light industry" approved by the Ministry of labor and social security, and national computer and English assessment points, which can carry out vocational skill appraisal and computer training for more than 20 types of work and posts, such as chemical analysis worker, food inspection worker, baking worker, brewing worker, bacteria culturing worker, catering service, etc At the same time, the college also attaches great importance to the construction of off campus training bases, and has built more than 80 off campus training bases in close cooperation with many domestic well-known enterprises, forming a new practice teaching system of "target navigation, multiple flexibility, and full process interaction".
