Nantong Shipping vocational and Technical College (hereinafter referred to as "College") is a full-time ordinary college approved by the people's Government of Jiangsu Province. It was founded in 1960 and belongs to the Department of communications of Jiangsu Province. It is an excellent college of the Ministry of education, the first batch of construction units of provincial demonstrative higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province, a vocational college entrusted by the state maritime administration to implement education poverty alleviation, a vocational college whose education quality management system has passed the certification of the State Maritime Administration, and a Vocational College with 15 international seafarer training qualifications recognized by the State Maritime Administration.

The college is located in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, which is the most suitable garden city for people to live in and the famous hometown of education in the Yangtze River Delta region of China.

The college insists on setting up specialties based on the transportation and shipbuilding industries, with distinctive characteristics. At present, there are seven departments of navigation, marine engineering, ship engineering, traffic engineering, management information, mechanical and electrical engineering, humanities and arts, and a number of provincial demonstration majors, characteristic majors, national excellent courses and provincial excellent courses. The college's full-time general higher education is mainly based on the three-year junior college after senior high school. Adult higher education has two forms: correspondence education and night University. At present, there are more than 9000 full-time general education students and nearly 500 adult education students.

The college has a strong faculty and a reasonable structure, with a number of professional leaders in Higher Vocational Education and famous teachers in Jiangsu Province. It has a large ship operation simulation center, a marine engineering simulation center, a container crane simulation training room and other experimental training rooms.
